Shasta, California, some 6o miles south of Ashland. He taught band, choir, and general music to grades K-8 for four years. It was during this time he decided to try out his songwriting skills on his choir. In 1977 he published his first pieces with Jenson Publications. By 1980 he was writing or arranging 20 pieces per year and his royalties far exceeded for his teaching income. At that point he resigned his teaching position and became a composer.
Recently, on January 5, 2017 Roger Emerson had an interview with Danielle Jester. Emerson is entering his fortieth year as a professional composer and arranger. He is a longtime resident of the small town of Mount Shasta but creates pieces for the largest music print publisher in the world. He now has around 1,000 music titles to his credit. Roger Emerson was born and raised in Downey, California. His father passed away when he was only 2 years old then his mother raised Emerson and his two brothers by himself until he was 12.
