Adults have an important role in children’s play. Children build up ideas and new sills through play. Children are able to solve problems be creative and take risks during play. The foundation stage says that children need to have opportunities to play indoors and outdoors. Children play spontaneously and they develop intellectually emotionally socially physically and creatively.

Implementation and integration

This could be a flower shop or a garden centre. By using one topic different activities can be made to meet different parts of the curriculum. In placement I am aware of the planning in the class for the week as it is displayed up on the wall at the start of each week. This means I can look each morning to find out what is happening over the day so therefore I will no what needs doing in the classroom to prepare. If the children were doing a painting activity, my role would be to set up the table, cover it in news paper, get out the paints and paintbrushes and set out the paper. For health and safety reasons the paint is non toxic. Children are encouraged to take part by using positive language they are praised whilst doing their activity and positive facial expressions and body language are used. So that I no that every child has took part I have a tick list with all the children’s name and once they have done the activity their name gets ticked of. An enabling environment is important to children. Children can be stimulated by having lots of activities around, these activities can be spread around the classroom for easy access. When laying out activities it is important that children have enough space or that it’s not in the way of other children walking though as other wise they may become frustrated. Having bright pictures or colourful walls will also stimulate and enable children to want to do more in their room, as it is not dull and plain.
