WHAT IS THE ROLE OF REMEDIAL READING TEACHERS?
Determining Student Needs Before a remediation teacher can effectively work with students, she must determine what the students need.
Student Instruction Since most students a remediation teacher works with will need different types of help, one- on-one instruction will often take place. During one-on-one instruction, a remediation teacher may help students complete assignments for a specific class.
Interacting with Other Teachers Often, students are referred to a remediation teacher by regular classroom teachers. The remediation teacher must work with a student's regular classroom teacher to determine kind of help a student needs.
Student Assessment Regular assessments help to determine whether a student is making progress while working with the remediation teacher. The remediation teacher is often responsible for administering these assessments and analysing the results.
The term remedial is employed in a broader sense to connote teaching which is developmental in its scope. Though our schools posses pupils who do not have any particular defects or faults which need correction, there are a group of students who urgently need assistance in developing increased competence in reading and the other fundamental processes.
Remedial teaching involves taking a pupil where one is and starting from that point leading one to greater achievement. It is just effective teaching in which the learner and his/her needs occupy the focal point.

WHAT IS DIAGNOSTIC-PRESCRIPTIVE TECHNIQUE?
The term diagnosis is one that has been used in the medical related areas. It refers to the determination of the nature of the disease or a problem through careful examination and study. This term is used by educators to the idea of diagnosing students in school setting in order to ascertain their strength and weaknesses in various academic areas.
Another term borrowed from medical word is prescription, which is a specific direction recommended following a careful diagnostic. When applied to school setting this term is indicate that a concerted effort is being made to provide instruction to students based on their identified educational need
Diagnostic and prescription have been joined to form a relatively new concept in teaching reading, the idea that individual strengths and weaknesses of students are identified and appropriate instruction is given based on the findings.
DIAGNOSTIC-PRESCRIPTIVE TECHNIQUE The use of diagnostic-prescriptive technique is for the identification of effective instructional strategies for children who differ in their academic learning capabilities. Meanwhile, the assumptions in the diagnostic prescriptive teaching are the students strengths and weaknesses, relevance of the acquisition of academic skills, the reliable and valid assessment and implications of the diagnostic information for teaching children.
Diagnostic-Prescriptive skills program provides orderly instruction in vocabulary, comprehension, and study skills. The six main tasks in this program are: Task 1: Designing a Scope and Sequence of Skills Task 2: Diagnosing Before and After Instruction Task 3: Keeping Records Task 4: Designing Instructional Strategies Task 5: Scheduling Instructions Task 6: Differentiating Instructions
