The nonchalant saunter of woman on the road to progress has been drastic over the past few years. From being the oppressed, women have now made an indelible impact on all walks of life. They have succeeded in carving a niche for themselves everywhere, even in previously male dominated bastions. All this is in stark contrast to deplorable condition of women just half century back. In those days women were reduced to being mere home markers in most cases. Hopes of anything more than nursing or perhaps teaching were quashed by the pressure society exerted.
The status of women in India has been subject to many great changes over the past few millennia. From equal status with men in ancient times through the low points of the medieval period, to the promotion of equal rights by many reformers, the history of women in India has been eventful. In modern India, women have held high offices in India including that of the President, Prime Minister, Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Leader of the Opposition. As of 2011[update], the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Leader of the Opposition in the were women. There is a common misconception that women have still not advanced in achieving academic degrees. According to Margaret Rossiter, a historian of science, women now earn 54 percent of all bachelor's degrees in the United States. However, although there are more women holding bachelors degrees than men, as the level of education increases, the more men tend to fit the statistics instead of women. At the graduate level, women fill 40 percent of the doctorate degrees and 31 percent of them being in engineering.
But now, in the present scenario realizing their lights and recognizing their status, women have set a foot forward to assume leading positions in fields like sports corporate, medicine, engineering or eve politics. Women now have a platform to showcase their talents.
Says Kiran Bedi – to be thought of half as useful as a man, I had to work twice as hard. These are the words of a woman who struggled a decade ago.

A lot has changed in the last 100 years. Women have taken each step towards equality that they have been allowed. “Looking back over the century, Nancy Woloch stated, "Women of the twenty-first century, thus inherited an unfinished agenda, one initiated by second wave feminists in the 1960’s and 1970’s but incomplete as the century ended”, (Bowles, 2011).…

The status of women in the U.S. today has improved a lot. According to The State of Women in America, “women made up only about one-third of the workforce in 1969, women today make up almost half of all workers in the United States. Women are also stepping up to lead the country; a record number of women ran for public office in 2012, and a record-high percentage of women are serving in Congress.” Women today feel more apart, rather than an outcast. It is also clear to see that America is going to start to see changes with leaders of the country. Women are also paid equally to men according to their qualifications for the nature of the job.…

The highest position in politics is becoming president of the United States. Like always the book Women Across Culture does an incredible job explaining some obstacles that women face and ways that we can fix this system. I was really surprised that only 30% of women needed in the legislative body in order to exert a meaningful influence on politics. I expecting to be closer to 50% but according to United Nations that is the estimate. Females over the years are beginning to reach these heights, with the influence of the media and education. The previous election was a great example of a female who got to the highest position, but in a male dominated government she had a low chance of winning. During her climb she influenced a lot of girls to try to make their voices heard, and I’m sure that it won’t take long before we get our first female…
