Chapter 1: Introduction
Introduction
In this case of study, I will be focusing on how role play activities can enhance speaking skill among secondary school’s students. Chapter 1 will cover on the statement of the problem, background and justification. I also will be writing on the short brief of research method and why this topic does is relevant to the teaching and learning of English in secondary schools.
Statement of Problem:
Instead of writing, listening and reading, speaking skill is one of the language skills that are integrated in Curriculum Specifications for English subject in schools. However, this skill is one of the skills that is failed to be requisite by the students. Nowadays, we sometimes find that many students have difficulty in producing a sentence in English without making mistakes even though they are exposed to the language already started from primary schools. This problem can be related to some issues such as anxiety among students, limited or low level of vocabulary, low proficiency of English and individual low self esteem.
Background and justification:
In general, English as the second language in Malaysia works as one of the tools that unifies the people of different languages, ethnicities, cultures and religions. That is because apart from our national language which is Bahasa Malaysia (BM), English is viewed as an important language that serves the communication needs of the people of different walks of life in Malaysia. Nowadays, in the era of modernization and

    The video shows the actual performance of students at the five stages of oral English Language Acquisition. The stage one enactment of the Silent Period (can last 0 to 6 months (Syrja (2011 p. 35)) shows two male students. One student with proficiency answering the teacher’s questions about the other student and the other student is silent. The stage two Early Production Stage (can last six months to 1 year Syrja (2011p. 35))) enactment shows a girl student talking quietly with one or two word phases answering questions. The stage five enactment Advanced Fluency Stage (Syrja (2011p. 36)) shows an adult man who is in the grade level classroom talking with fluency and discussing his additional support how he learned English for example watching television and having friends help him out to learn and having the vocabulary and a native speaker .
