Uncle Hammer did not get discriminated against directly,however when Cassie gets discriminated Uncle Hammer gets affected.The quote “Unnecessary trouble! You think that my brother died and I got my Leg half blown off in their German war to have some redneck knock Cassie around anytime it suits him?” (p.124) proves this.Uncle Hammer fought for America in World War I and Uncle Hammer’s brother died but no one respects him for that because Uncle Hammer is black.
However, not all people share the same perspective. The Whites have a different point of view of ethical issues from the blacks. Most whites did not see blacks as equal to whites.Whites think that they are better than the blacks and that discriminating the blacks in not an ethical issue.The quote “Even the northerners who fought the war didn’t really see us as equal to white people...For him to believe that he is better than we are makes him think that he’s important,simply because he’s white.”(p.129) proves this.
In conclusion, in the novel Roll of Thunder,Hear my Cry by Mildred D.
