Roman Empire Decline

François-Marie Arouet, more popularly known as Voltaire once said, “The Holy Roman Empire is neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire.” The Roman Empire was considered to be a major powerhouse of the Western World. While only the Western Roman Empire is the half that suffered greater hardships, there is not one distinct reason for its collapse. The causes for the collapse of the Roman Empire are bountiful. Each of these causes fit together resembling one giant puzzle of the Roman Empire with the individual pieces portraying the causes. An empire as large as the Roman Empire did not simply fall overnight, the decline took place over the course of over 500 years (Alchin, 1). Even though the destruction occurred over hundreds of years, the Roman Empire did not know what was coming until it was too late, their fate was sealed.

The Roman Empire made many technological and social progresses throughout the 500 or more years it was in high power. So while the Holy Roman Empire was truly no longer solely Roman and the majority of the empire had crumbled, many of these advances are still used today in buildings, cultures, art, and even basic societal structures. Take the roads for example, cars move over massive highway systems that are just an improved version of the early Roman road designs. The Roman Empire may have fallen all those years ago, but their customs and improvements are still alive and thriving, giving the illusion that the great empire is also still thriving. Every great empire does not have enough power or endless resources and money that it takes to succeed for forever, each must have its steady decline and give a new empire or country its own turn on the world
