During the ruling of Emperor Nero during 313 AD, the christians were persecuted because Nero blamed them for the great fire of rome. This left many christians to be executed or majorly suppressed. Another example of social suppression is the use of slaves. In Rome, slaves were a huge part of their society and everyday life. Around ¼ of the population of the roman empire was slaves. This leaves not only the slaves, but the christians unloyal to the roman empire.
Rome was known for its powerful military and the huge amount of land it captured, but without the loyalty of the military, rome fell. This is another huge difference between Rome and the United States. The U.S. has the biggest military in the world to this day. Which allows them to protect their land and continue to be stable.
