Roman Public Water System
Public Water systems were very modern for Roman towns. Public fountains gave ordinary people their water, while the wealthier homes had a private water supply. All classes of Rome enjoyed the public baths. They got their water from aqueducts which were underneath the cities. In 3 AD there were eleven aqueducts built by the Romans. The Romans were the ones who gave us the idea to take all of the waist away. The Romans were ahead of their time for the idea of Aqueducts.

The Romans constructed public bathhouses to bath themselves since many could not afford private baths. The baths had water delivered to it by aqueducts. They even had sewers to carry away the over flow water and waste from the toilets. The Romans would rub a kind of oil (a soap that lathered was unknown) on themselves and scrape it off with a strigil, a tool used to scrape off the oil and with it came dirt and dead skin cells. After this, a hot bath followed and then directly after the hot bath was a cold one. These bathhouses included a gym, bars, wine shops, cafes, gardens, libraries and…

The Roman Empire originated in the Latium region in the central part of Italy (Mahdavi 2012). This region is very swampy and low lying, nestled in and amongst many hills. This fact has always made Rome very susceptible to flooding (Dunstan 2010). This frequent flooding made many areas in Rome particularly wet for most of the year (Dunstan 2010). In order for Rome to become more habitable, a solution had to found for the issue with the water. That is when the idea for the Cloaca Maxima drainage system came about. This system measured 1,600 m and drained the entire region lying between the Quirinal and Esquiline hills (Aldrete 2006). This drainage system ultimately emptied into the Tiber River through an orifice measuring 4.5 masl (Aldrete 2006).…

From C.A. 300 CE to 476 CE Rome began a steady decline to its collapse. Some historians disagree with this and have other theories. One of the other theories is that the Roman Empire did not collapse as the Eastern Empire did not collapse until “Fall of Rome at Constantinople in 1453.” The base of this theory is that the Eastern Empire became the Byzantium Empire, however it was no longer the Roman Empire as there were no longer any Roman Emperors. Another theory by Peter Wells is “The Roman Empire “fell” only in the minds of people who had a particular and limited view of what the Roman Empire was and who understood events such as Alaric’s capture of Rome in A.D. 410 as marking its end.” Wells argues that the change was extremely gradual and continued well past 476 CE. While Wells theory is more valid, the empire still did not exist after 476 CE.…

On the last years of Rome, the Roman Empire faced many problems. The Romans suffered from inflation, unemployment, and barbarian invasion. Inflation was the rise in prices of food and water. Since the food and water was so expensive, the poor couldn’t buy it so they died or had hard times living without food. Unemployment was a big problem in the Roman Empire. Most of the poor and farmers did not have any jobs so they over crowded the cities, overcrowding of the cities was bad for the rich and the poor. The barbarian invasion was horrible, since they burned roman houses and killed many of the citizens. The barbarians were Germanic tribes that invaded Rome to destroy their land. The Roman had many accomplishments during their time. Many of the accomplishment were making concrete, creating aqueducts, having a good government, created the column, and having indoor plumbing. The concrete was to build roads, buildings, and vaults. We use concrete to build most stuff today too. Romans also had aqueducts that brought clean and fresh water to the cities. Today we use aqueducts to hold water. They also had a very stable government. Thru Roman Republic was very good, they also had judges who judged fairly. The Romans also had columns that hold their buildings up. On the columns the Romans usually carved pictures on it. Indoor plumbing was also one of the Romans accomplishments. The Romans waste goes through the sewers and in to the Tiber River. Today the Roman Empire influences our community with their building with concrete, there buildings, and the construction of aqueduct. Today we use concrete to build most of our buildings, walls and some roads, but most of our roads today are made out of asphalt. The Roman buildings were very prestigious designs. Today we use most of the Roman designs to build pure materials. We mostly use their designs on buildings. Today we use an aqueduct to preserve our water. We also use it to keep animals in too, or to keep…

    Roman Government

Although the form of government in the Roman Empire changed several times over its thousand year history, many parts remained the same and it has served as a model, inspiring the founding fathers as they created the governmental system of the United States of America almost 2,000 years later. Scattered around seven hills in the middle of the Italian peninsula, Rome began as a simple village of wooden huts. As it grew, it became governed by a monarchy, with a king having complete control. This lasted for over 200 years until the king was overthrown and a republic form of government was developed. Although controlled to a large extent by wealthy land owners and nobles, the general population was given an increasingly larger part in how the empire was run. This form of government worked well and the Roman Empire prospered. However, social unrest in the first century A.D., coupled with several military defeats, ended with Julius Caesar taking control and declaring himself dictator for life, ending the true republic form of government. Assassinated a month later, Rome then entered a period of rule by an emperor, which lasted until the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 A.D. The Roman Empire lasted longer than any other government in the western world and it has provided the foundation upon which the government of the United States is based, along with providing valuable lessons for future generations.…

The manumission system has been interconnected to Roman slavery that stench back as far as the imperial age. The Roman elite view on slavery was quite liberal in the way they grant freedom to their slaves and demonstrated slave labor was not needed to have a productive society. When slaves were set free they need not absolved all the responsibilities from their former master. Instead, some conditions may be lay out where upon release slaves might find themselves bound with obligations for certain length of time towards their owner. This pathway was convenient on both parties, because slaves could improve their social status while the owner did not receive an economic loss. In reality, most former slaves forfeit economic support from their master when…
