students have a chance to learn the genre by watching the three chosen films. At the beginning of the film festival they will be showing information of the genre that is presented and then the films that were announced will play. After all three of the films are shown, the students will be given a chance to ask questions and talk about the genre and anything they have learned from watching the movies. There are three films that will be shown at the romantic film festival. Each of that film gives a good demonstration to the genre.
The first film that will be shown is called “The Notebook” this film will help students experience the subcategory Romantic Drama. This film is starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. This is one of the popular romantic dramas movies of all time, and many people are familiar with it. There are so many emotions in the scenes and it makes you feel like you are living a real love story of Noah and Allie the characters of the story. I think one of the famous scenes in the movie is on the dock when it’s pouring down rain where Allie is chasing after Noah saying she has waited years for him, and that he never wrote to her when he really did write to her. That was the award winning kiss scene that happened between the characters Noah and Allie. The movie notebook takes you through a tour about the lives of Allie and Noah and the difficulties they have through their love story. It is an unforgettable film and is a romantic story that touches everyone heart once they have seen it.
The second film is an award winning movie with suspense and iconic scenes it’s called “Titanic” it’s another Romantic drama film starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. People have come to love and remember many scenes from the film. One of the scenes I think that people would remember is when Rose and jack are at the front of the boat. Rose has her arms up in the air like she is flying and jack is behind her acting like he is holding her up. People that have seen the movie remember that scene it was a Romantic scene. Titanic is a long movie than usual but it will let the students get a feel of the genre and also help them learn about real life history of the Titanic. The third film is considered a subcategory of romantic comedy due to the funny scenes. This film is “Pretty Woman” and starring in it is Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. One scene that I remember is Julia Roberts character goes to a business dinner with the character played by Richard Gere. While she is at dinner she is trying to figure out the fancy foods and silverware that she knows nothing about. It’s a funny scene because she accidently throws from her fork escargot at the waiter and he catches it. The movie is filled with a lot of funny scenes that show how her character is trying to adjust to the rich ways of life and falling in love with his character.
Comparing and contrasting the films. The three films the film festival has chosen relate to the theme Romance. There was one thing in common for all three of the films, and is how each film was classic for the genre. When it comes to thinking about a romantic movie the first thing that might come to mind are these three films because they have such a huge part of the genre. Another comparison for all of the films is at least one actor or actresses have started their career in one of these movies. Leonardo DiCaprio’s career as an actor started with his awesome performance in Titanic. Julia Roberts made a big effect in the movie pretty woman and her costar Richard Gere made a comeback in his career. The Notebook helped both Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling set their movie careers in motion.
When comparing the movies to the sounds and music played in each of them they were similar.
The music creates the mood in the movie and that is the key to feeling the film. Pretty Woman and titanic both had theme songs for the movies. Pretty Woman has the theme song “Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison and Titanic has “My heart will go on” by Celine Dion. Pretty woman and Titanic are both movies that were big hits especially when it came to their music. All three of these films have great music and sounds to remember. Next is the contrast part between the films of the festival. The movies were made in different ways when it came to editing and cinematography. You can see diversity in time era when the movies were made the time is different between them. Another contrast for all these movies are the endings for the love stories they all ended in different ways. The end of the movie will give the students a chance to experience the genre in three different ways. We have a tragic ending with titanic and a happy ending with pretty woman, and a little bit of both in Notebook each one of the films that was shown substantially represents the theme and are classics of the genre. The students will need to analyze the romance genre it is a particular genre that has strong emotions to the audience. Romance is a genre that can changeover into other genres to show the audiences the sense of hope and feelings when it comes to love. Students can learn about the romance genre and how it is important in the movie industry. They will also learn from the film festival and what characteristics make a romantic
movie.
