The three main weaknesses I will be focusing on is the Religion of Christianity, Split of the Roman Empire, and Barbarian groups raiding Rome.
One big factor that led to the fall of Rome was the rise of Christianity. Most Romans were polytheistic, which meant they believed in many gods. Christians were monotheistic. Monotheistic means that you believe in one god. Romans would often kill Christians because of their beliefs. Most poor people were Christian. In 313 C.E. the killing of Christians had ended, because Constantine the Roman Emperor developed a tolerance for

But in a polytheistic religion there were more gods who were believed to be tied with natural phenomenon and each God were would have different roles. Another difference is that people of polytheistic gods would believe that the god of monotheistic culture was divine but people of a monotheistic religion believed that the gods of the polytheistic religion were either demonic or false…

One of the main differences between the two empires was their religions. Christianity, in Rome, was greatly opposed by religious institutions of the native Judaea and had to go against the official cults of Rome and also the “mystery” religions including Isis, Mithra, and Osiris. After the acceptance of Constantine, the Roman empire became mainly Christian. Constantine discontinued the persecution of Christians and supported the church. Christianity eventually influenced a lot of beliefs and decisions of the future rulers of Rome and appealed to lower class people…

After Jesus’ crucifixion, many of Jesus’ followers began to spread the word of their new religion modeled after the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus. But, as these followers went throughout the Roman world, they were met with persecution and ridicule. Although the Roman elite later adopted Christianity as the state religion, Christianity was first successfully adopted by the lower class and the Germanic tribes (Document G). Christianity helped the Roman subject to start questioning the ruling class’s impropriety and their indifference to inequality. Christianity led the fall of the Roman empire because it helped the subjects question the Roman authority, and to ultimately overthrow it.…

Polytheism was notable for being relatively tolerant to other religious beliefs. Polytheistic gods were not seen as jealous gods, so the gods would only require their own dues being paid to them and not at the exclusion of other gods. One such example was in the Roman Empire. They were fairly tolerant of other religions and even cults, but the only condition was that they would add Roman gods and the emperor to their worship. Jews and Christians were often persecuted because of their refusal to worship other gods.…

Christians were an easy blame for disastrous events. In Asia Minor, the provisional governor, Pliny asked a group of Christians to reconsider their religion, and freed those who denied Christianity, while executing those who refused to. This did not stop the spread of Christianity, in fact many times in which Rome oppressed those who believed in one god, ended fueling a mindset to continue their practice, especially in the early stages of Christianity, when the Jews were being oppressed and enslaved for their particular beliefs. It was easy for Rome to blame the Christians because it was very different from their own beliefs, it affected their traditional values, roles, and sacrifices for the gods as people branched away from the old ideas, it was a quick blame. Those branching to new religions were traitors not only of the religion, but also of society as a…

The response of the Romans was hampered by the absence of the Roman legions, which were already engaged in fighting a revolt in Spain and the Third Mithridatic War. Furthermore, the Romans considered the rebellion more a policing matter rather than a war. Rome dispatched militia under the command of praetor Gaius Claudius Glaberus, which besieged the slaves on the mountain, hoping that starvation would force the slaves to surrender. They were surprised when Spartacus had ropes made from vines, climbed down the cliff side of the volcano with his men and attacked the unfortified Roman camp in the rear, killing most of them. The slaves also defeated a second expedition, nearly capturing the praetor commander, killing his lieutenants and seizing the…

The ancient world was marked by many successful and great civilizations and their equally great falls from power. Perhaps the most grand of failures in this time was that of the Roman Empire. After the death of Marcus Aurelius, an empire that had stood strong for centuries began its long, painful decline which lasted almost three centuries. No one person could possibly be blamed for this progression of abasement in the empire, but rather the entire Roman population. There were multiple political, economic, military, and social causes of the fall of the Roman Empire.…
