Premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Her Friend Adam magnifies the short period of time it takes for a single couple to lose all hope and trust, while falling apart. Clocking in at roughly 16 minutes, this spiraling disaster captures the comical, fatal, and at times uncomfortable gestures each participant expresses. Written, directed, and starring Ben Petrie, his short film focuses on the demise of a heterosexual relationship, which is swiftly replaced by a non-threatening, platonic connection.…
Students, APA formatting is not required, however, you are required to substantiate your responses and opinions with laws, cases, statutes, codes, regulations or anything else that gives credibility to your answers. Remember, this is a legal class. Also, remember to state issues, integrate facts, discuss both sides of an issue, thoroughly analyze each question in detail, and lastly, conclude, based upon your legal findings and premise. You can have more than one conclusion as long as you argue both sides of an issue. You don’t need one absolute conclusion. The most important thing in law would be your ability to see both sides, argue them, and present alternative conclusions based upon these factors.…
Upon reading Plato¶s ³Allegory of the Cave,´ I was impressed on how well the posed scenariogave such a mentally descriptive metaphor to any society and their stubborn unwillingness to look outsideof conventional ethics. In my eyes, the people inside the caves whose reality consists of the cave and its shadows relateto the people of a society who live their lives, doing whatever they can to meet the norms and fit in. Theseindividuals never question the shadows directly in front of them, as those shadows are the only realitythey know. They have no reason to look beyond or question the shadows because they have no idea thatthere may be more; there may be other ways of living life. The individuals who provide those who are chained with the images, and give them their falsereality are already enlightened individuals of society. These are the people who have already found their way out of the cave and have learned of the true world they live in. People such as these fuel the falsereality to those in the cave yet at the same time are the ones who will inspire the others own personalrealizations. You could think of these people as the individuals of society who don¶t follow all the normsand are true to themselves and live by what makes them happy, and not by society¶s standards. As the individuals in chains live life they are constantly exposed to those outside the cave. I believe that the more they are exposed to the ³free´ individuals and notice that they are not bonded tochains they begin to question their own reality. Here I believe that as those in chains gain their inceptionof the possibility of an alternate reality (or another way of living), they set themselves free of their own bonds and gain insight to the exit of the cave; the path to enlightenmentWhile walking out of the cave towards the light, the now free individual may be in the middle of shadows and bright light and begin to question his/her transformation. If they decide to continue however, they will be…
The story touches on the subjects of morality, greed, and true love. The unspoken and rather hidden subject though, is that of the persistent theme that love often leads to heartbreak. The characters in this story love each other. It is not a true love, but it is love nonetheless. In the story, the reader learns of a couple, Norma and Arthur.…
“Modern Love” also utilizes imagery to portray the sadness and tension of modern love. The…
Who would think that listening to hip hop music one would be influenced to live, think, and act a certain way? Joan Morgan’s “Fly Girls, bitches, and hoes: Notes of a Hip Hop feminist”, argues that the rampant sexism and machismo in hip hop music is the fault of both African American men and women and damages the larger African community. She compares hip hop music to an abusive relationship. She states that hip hop music is the only way in which young black men are allowed to hide and express their pain. She believes that black men are engaged in war and, racism and white power structure have conditioned black men to believe the enemy is brown. She states that for most black men there is no trust, no community, and no family. She believes that hip hop is the mirror in which brothers see themselves. She states that black women are hurt when they hear black men calling them bitches and hoes. She states that in the last thirty years the number of two-parent household has decreased from 70 to 38 percent. She says that the cause of death among black men ages fifteen to twenty-four is homicide. The hip hop community creates sexism and machismo in the African American community because of the way hip hop artist dress, what they say and how they behave.…

First coined in 1798 by Schlegel, Romanticism described an overt reaction against the Enlightenment and classical culture of the eighteenth century. Europe’s Classical past and the values it had attained were disintegrating. The paintings in this era showed the emotional attachment to victims of society. A lot of the work also always pitted the human against nature. The Romantics were devoted to seeing the beauty in nature through their own experiences.…
To be a good romance film, it needs to have a good story line that provokes emotion through some kind of relationship. Keeping the viewer on the tip of his/her seat, the relationship needs to not be so easy. There needs to be a challenge or obstacle that is holding the match made in heaven apart. This adds to the emotional aspect of the movie. In the Notebook, Noah (Ryan) and Ally (Rachel) have this hot and heavy summer romance where they fall deeply in love. They are passionate lovers, while at the same time defensive fighters. They constantly fight and make up throughout the summer. Ally has to move away once the school year has started and then she continues onto college in a different location, holding the couple back. Not only is there distance between these love birds, but Alley’s mother secretly steels the letters that Noah wrote to her. So on one hand, Noah is confessing his love to Ally without a response, and Ally is miserably waiting for Noah to write her. Suspension builds when Ally later on in life finds another man who she is engaged to. The story takes off from there, but case in point, there is something preventing the couple from being together.…
Another mention of Hector's exploits in the early years of war was given in the Iliad book 9. During the embassy to Achilles, Odysseus, Phoenix and Ajax all try to persuade Achilles to rejoin the fight. In his response, Achilles points out that while Hector was terrorizing the Greek forces now, and that while he himself had fought in their front lines, Hector had 'no wish' to take his force far beyond the walls and out from the Skiaian Gate and nearby oak tree. He then claims, 'There he stood up to me alone one day, and he barely escaped my onslaught.'…
The president, plant supervisor, and plant foreman of the Film Recovery Systems plant outside of Dallas are being indicted for murder, due to one of their employees collapsing and dyeing there in the plant. The medical examiner pronounced his death as a homicide due to cyanide poisoning. The cadaver was identified as a Vietnamese immigrant who spoke very little English. The judge did convict them, thanks to the prosecutors showing sufficient evidence of how the company knowingly hired illegal aliens, to work in their plants. They also included the fact that the officials never informed the workers of the hazardous and dangerous things that could occur due to them being around open vats of bubbling cyanide. Some workers did testify on the prosecutor’s side stating how sometimes the odor was so strong they had to often run outside to vomit. The defense attorneys did argue that the federal and state regulatory agencies never mention that what was going on the plantation wasn’t allowed. Judge Banks said that the executives were more than aware about the situations and how unsafe the conditions were, so he pronounced them guilty of murder. They did decide to appeal the case, stating how they should have not been criminally liable for the workers death.…
Speaking about the theme of the story I’d like to pin down the relationships between a man and a woman. As for the idea, it is the nonmutual love as the result of not having much in common, misunderstanding within sexes.…

Inventory, in most of the industries, accounts for the largest proportion of gross working capital. A number of studies, therefore, have been conducted to find the determinants of investment in inventories. The following discussion provides a brief review of studies, dealing with factors influencing investments in inventory in India. Economic studies to analyze the factors that influence inventory accumulation in India, are based on time series and pooling of cross section of time series data pertaining to manufacturers’ inventories. Krishnamurty’s study (1964) was aggregative and dealt with inventories in the private sector of the Indian economy as a whole for the period 1948-61. This study used sales to represent demand for the product and suggest the importance of accelerator. Short-term rate of interest had also been found to be significant. Sastry’s study (1996) was a cross-section analysis of total inventories of companies across several heterogenous industries for the period 1955-60 using balance sheet data of public limited companies in the private sector. The study brought out the importance of accelerator represented by change in sales. It also showed negative influence of fixed investment on inventory investment. Krishnamurty and Sastry’s study in 1970 was perhaps the most comprehensive study on manufacturers’ inventories. They used CMI data and the consolidated balance sheet data of public limited companies published by RBI, to analyze each of the major…
Y One Man Making a Difference: Abraham Lincoln and Slavery - ... With his goals, he did a great deal of things. Such as leading people into expressing themselves in editorials, political speeches and declarations. Bringing forward the fact that all men are created equal. When slavery started becoming an issue of who would be in control of territory Lincoln said "this question of Slavery was more important than any other; indeed, so much more important has it become that no other national question can even get a hearing just at present." With all of this Lincoln conquers victory in his election of 1860.... Lincoln wasn 't scared to stand up and fight for what he knew was right. He was convinced that within the branches of government, the presidency alone was empowered not only to uphold the Constitution, but also to protect, and defend it. Lincoln was able to lead our country and preserve the Union, keeping the United States from splintering during the devastating times of the Civil War.... Abraham Lincoln had no clear intentions of emancipating the slaves unless he felt that it was truly necessary for him to do so. For example, look at the expulsion of Union General John Fremont who was in charge of the federal government’s military efforts in Missouri. The Union General created an act on August 30th, 1861 to deter the Confederates from their guerilla warfare. This act granted him Marshall Law throughout the state and gave him the ability to confiscate property and declare slaves…
