In the play Romeo And Juliet by Shakespeare the characters are not what they appear to be. Law and Order is talked about a lot in this play, and is one of the most important topics. Love is next to law and order and is also very deceiving. Trust is last and has a lot to do with in this book. Overall there is a lot of deceiving appearances in this play by Shakespeare.
First, the characters are not what they appear to be when it comes down to Law and Order. Prince Escalus is supposed to be enforcing the law, but her not. Instead he is fed up with all the fights but is hardly doing anything about them occurring, he is only sentencing death. Meanwhile Prince Escalus is the law, and he doesn’t do a good job enforcing it. “If ever you disturb our streets again you lives shall pay the forfeit of peace” (Shakespear, I, ii, 94-95) this is proving that he’s getting fed up with the fights and he wants to kill the next person that starts one. Other then Prince, Tybalt seems like he wouldn’t start all the fights. First of all he’s the one starting all the fights, and threatens to kill Romeo. By doing this he is breaking the law, and still ignores to obey it by fighting and trying to kill Romeo. Lastly Romeo doesn’t seem like the person who would kill someone. But first he gets into a fight with Tybalt that results in death. Then Romeo is exiled for Tybalt’s death. In conclusion appearances are deceiving when it comes to Law and Order.
Secondly, Romeo and Juliet are not who they seem to be when they end up falling in love. Romeo thinks Juliet’s the most beautiful girl he’s seen but that’s all he cares about. His love for Juliet is all based on looks; because he only thinks she’s pretty. Also Romeo doesn’t understand what marriage will do to them, death. “Then move not while my prayers effect I take thus from my lips by thine, my sin is purged” (Shakespeare, I, IV, 106-107).
