The 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet closely adheres to the original performance. It is the movie that one would picture in their mind as the read the original written form. It is set in the time period of Shakespearean times. This movie sticks really well with the version around hundreds of years ago. This modern movie is set in a 1990s atmosphere. This method reconstructs the classic story as if it was written today. Swords are replaced by guns, horses replaced by cars, castles replaced by mansions, and much more. The modern setting gives the story a different perspective to view the story. A few scenes from the written play are left out in the 1996 film. Overall, the 1996 Romeo and Juliet movie is well performed, but has a very different setting from the earlier 1968 Romeo and Juliet film and the classic Shakespeare
