I felt that Romeo’s anger was allowed to bubble up in the traditional version, while Romeo’s anger at first came out of nowhere in the modern version. While Mercutio was being harassed by Tybalt, the acting of Romeo showed that he wanted to calm the situation in the traditional version. In the modern version, I felt that Romeo was angry at the very start, and didn’t give much thought into calming down the situation. I also felt the car crash in the modern version didn’t make any sense. Why would Romeo want to destroy his car? How did neither of them get injured? The traditional version was a lot more clear; after all, it makes sense that Romeo would chase after Tybalt in the moment, while he was still angry.
While they may present the same scene, both versions are very different in their presentation. The dialogue and the plot are the same for each, but that is where the similarities end.
