In scene G, the nurse teases Juliet because she got the answer that Juliet waited all day to hear. It all started after the marriage proposal of Romeo and Juliet. The day after Juliet proposes, she sent the nurse to find out about the marriage. The nurse left at nine in the morning, but never returned until twelve after. However, Juliet waited and waited impatiently in the orchard. When the nurse and Peter entered the gate, Juliet rushed to them and asked questions about Romeo (Peter exit). Furthermore, the nurse continued her work and Juliet kept going on with the questions. Since Juliet is trying to get answers and the nurse is doing her job, that shows that Juliet is following behind the nurse. In addition, Juliet is very curious about her marriage and wants to know the news Romeo sent to her. As the readers read this scene, it shows that the nurse works her way around the wanted
answer just to mess with Juliet and she exaggerates a lot. This is known as a hyperbole. An example of the nurse using a hyperbole is when she said “lord, how my head aches! What a head have I; it beats as it would fall in twenty pieces. My back! A t’other side. Ah, my back, my back (Scene G: Act II, Scene 5).” The nurse is overreacting and this is how she change the subject. Whenever, Juliet finally gets the news that Romeo sent, they both exit the scene. According to the blueprint of scene G, the setting takes place in the Capulet’s orchard.
The set-up has trees near the back of the stage due to the shape of how the Globe Theatre was built, an octagon shape. As can be seen in the Globe Theatre, the audience are basically everywhere in the theatre. In addition, the blueprint shows the balcony and the entrance of the gate for this scene. As shown, the gate is placed on the left side of the stage and near the balcony, which will be used in this scene. This is from the audience perspective of view. This is because of the nurse and Peter entering from the gate and then Juliet and the nurse will meet up in the middle of the stage and go upstairs. However, in this scene, natural lights will be used because in William Shakespeare’s time, they would do plays in the early afternoon, roughly around two in the evening. Also, there were artificial lightings, but it was not necessary. In fact, additional scenery that are used were curtains. The curtains were used in between scenes. It help change the scenes, just not scene G, but others
too. In any event of the plays casted, the audience are usually placed at the top starting with the wealthy people to the lower class. In brief information, there are three floors of seats and also a fourth floor. The fourth floor has no seats, people who watched the plays had to stand. As you can tell, in William Shakespeare’s day, the weathly people pays extra to sit at the third floor, not because they are rich, but it makes them feel powerful because they are looking down at the lower class. In addition, the finnacial supporter of the show are allowed to sit at the third floor. Likewise, the the second floor is the same and the first floor is for the lower class. Comparing the seating chart, the third floor does not have a good view.
