Tybalt was the reason Romeo got banished from Verona. Tybalt came near Mercutio, Romeo and the other Montagues and started bothering them, which led to the death of Mercutio, Tybalt himself and the banishment of Romeo. Romeo being banished caused him and Juliet to not be able to see each other, which led them to grieve not being with each other. Tybalt said to Romeo, “Romeo the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: thou art a villain” (846). Tybalt said these words to Romeo right before they got in a sword fight over the death of Mercutio. Tybalt was furious with Romeo entering the Capulet party and for wanting to marry his cousin, Juliet, which is why he challenged Romeo to the sword fight. Tybalt thought of Romeo as a villain when he never tried to take the time to realize the person Romeo really was. Tybalt also said, “I hate the word as I hate hell, all Montagues and thee” (790). When Tybalt said this phrase he meant that he hates all Montagues and just the word Montague itself. Tybalt never did realize that Romeo was only trying to be nice to him since he was going to be related to him through marriage, but Tybalt still gave him no chance. Along with Lord Capulet, Tybalt played the second major role in not only Romeo and Juliet’s lives but their deaths
