Romeo And Juliet Church Analysis

I painted the Holy Trinity Church by the river Avon in Stratford-upon-Avon using gouache, a type of opaque watercolor. This location was where Shakespeare "worshipped as a boy and young man, and again after he retired to his home town" ("Shakespeare"). This church was where Shakespeare was both baptized and buried. I knew I wanted to draw or paint something, so I did research on characters in Romeo and Juliet and locations important in Shakespeare's life. I figured that a character would be boring and bland, so I debated on drawing Shakespeare's home or church. In the end I saw that the colorful and vibrant landscape of his church was unique. After finding the perfect reference to base my painting off of, I started by sketching with a pencil.
