Romeo and Juliet Essay

Is “Romeo and Juliet” a story about true love or only a story about the danger of silly teenage infatuation? In my opinion, this story is about true love. Romeo and Juliet s love for one another has been depicted in the story by their willingness to sacrifice anything to be with each other. In addition, there love is so strong because they have rebelled against their families to see each other even though they were forbidden too. Their true love has leaded them to make decisions that have put their own lives in jeopardy. There are several events in the story that has leaded me to believe that this story is about true love. For example, Romeo had sneaked into the Capulet’s home to see Juliet, even though he could be captured and killed because their families are having a feud. Another act of love portrayed by Juliet in the story is when she risks her life by drinking a potion to fake her own death to be with Romeo. Juliet planned it with the Friar to fake her own death by drinking the potion and that she will be awaken several hours later. However, the Friar was supposed to send Romeo a message for him to get Juliet when she wakes, but the message didn’t reach him. I think the story’s theme was intended to be about love. The author William Shakespeare had clearly emphasized their first magical encounter that had made Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight. In addition, Shakespeare’s portrays Romeo and Juliet love as in idealized, unreal, and in a passionate love state. In the story, it clearly describes how Romeo and Juliet are captivated by each other. For example, in a scene Romeo describes Juliet as an angel standing at her balcony. Some people might describe this story as about the dangers of silly teenage infatuation, do you think is so? Romeo and Juliet’s love for one another was so strong that they wanted to get married.
