There are earlier hints in the text about Romeos flaw that shows the true Romeo. Earlier in the text 1/1 Romeo is soft because of Rosaline. Benvolio makes Romeo realize that Rosaline will never be married she…
(Shakespeare 1. 4. 17-28) There are many cases of Mercutio and Benvolio teasing Romeo or trying to convince him that he’s being irrational. Even so, Romeo is convinced that his sorrow is justified and he will feel this way forever. He is called a lover and a dreamer and here he is acting like that, he is not thinking things through and he is not taking the advice of others. This ultimately leads to his…
Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play, about showing love under cover. The characters are Romeo, Juliet, Friar are primarily responsible for the deaths of Romeo Juliet because they all hide their marriage from everyone which did not work. Benvolio has a more common sense about love, he doesn’t think that Romeo should get so carried away and attached to women. Romeo always dives in head first and becomes infatuated with women and then becomes depressed when he is heartbroken.…
In William Shakespeare’s tragic play Romeo and Juliet, the son and daughter of rival families fall helplessly in love with each other, but a series of catastrophic events lead to the eventual demise of both characters. There is no question that the main character, Romeo, faces a countless number of tragedies throughout the play. The real question is who helps him through these hardships more, Benvolio or Mercutio? Both of these characters are great friends to Romeo in different ways, but if one had to be chosen as Romeo’s best friend it would be Mercutio. Throughout the play, Mercutio cares about the well-being of Romeo, defends Romeo’s honor, and tries to cheer Romeo up through humor. While Benvolio performs a few deeds of friendship, these showings of friendship are not as constant or as outspoken as Mercutio’s showings of friendship. To finish with, Mercutio is a better friend to Romeo than Benvolio is because he does more for Romeo and does these key things for Romeo in a better fashion than Benvolio does.…

Romeo tells Benvolio about his love for Rosaline, a girl who he doesn’t seem to actually have a relationship with. It doesn’t even seem that Rosaline has feelings for Romeo. When Romeo says, “She hath forsworn love, and in that vow do I live dead,” (Shakespeare I.i.230) he means that he is heartbroken. Shakespeare’s exaggerated statements show that Romeo is dramatic.…
This passage is important to Romeo and Juliet because it further develops Benvolio and Mercutio’s characters, while establishing the dynamic and roles between the three best friends. The scene takes place outside of Capulet’s house, moments before they ‘crash’ the party. Romeo questions what to do, deciding between causing a scene or dancing for a bit and leaving swiftly. Benvolio is first to give his opinion, by suggesting that they ‘have no Cupid hoodwink’d with a scarf’ (1.4.4) and ‘Nor not without-book prologue’ (1.4.7), which are both examples of boisterous behavior that Benvolio does not approve of. He then goes on to say, ‘We’ll measure them a measure and be gone’ (1.4.10) displaying his reasoning of not wanting to cause a scene.…

Love is something that should lead you to happiness, but who knew love could cause a pain to end it all. This grief provoked from a family grudge, with two people that just wanted to love. Shakespeare shows how a family grudge, like the one between the Capulets and Montagues affects Romeo and Juliet's relationship. William Shakespeare carries the theme hatred towards others will drive your loved ones away, in many different ways throughout the piece of Romeo and Juliet. The first way he shows this theme is in the balcony scene where Juliet explains how she loves Romeo, but she worries because he is a Montague.…
Benvolio shows philios love toward Romeo to get over Rosaline. Benvolio says, “By giving liberty unto thine eyes, examine other beauties” (1,1,221). He is trying to be a good friend and help Romeo feel better and be caring to help him move on. This love is also shown when Romeo is livid about Mercutio’s death and wants revenge on Tybalt. Romeo stated this, “Staying for thine to keep him company, either thou or I, or both, must go with him” (3,1,24). Romeo feels awful about Mercutio’s death and feels his or Tybalt’s soul must go with Mercutio’s because of his friendly love for Mercutio. Friendship love is also shown in the Prince toward Romeo. Instead of putting Romeo to death, he banished him from Verona. Prince stated, “Let Romeo hence in haste. Else when heis found, that hour is his last” (3,1,190). The Prince is being generous and ignoring the law so Romeo doesn’t have to end his…
