Romeo and Juliet vs Tristan and Isolde

Romeo and Juliet + Tristan and Isolde are both sad and tragic famous stories. Romeo and Juliet is the story of two star crossed lovers, who, Coming From rival families are not destined to Love each other. They end up privately getting married without their parent consent and from then On, Miscommunication with both each other and their parents led to their death. Tristan and Isolde. Tristan and Isolde is a more complex stories of two Star crossed lovers, Tristan is son of a British warrior while Isolde is the Princess of Enemy Ireland. Tristan gets mistakenly “Buried at sea” and meet Isolde on the beach for the first time. They fall deeply in love but get separated when Tristan recovers. During a “Who is the best” context Tristan won a girl for Marke the man who raised him. Tristan doesn’t realize its Isolde until she lifts up her veil. They started a secret affair behind Marke’s back, got caught and Marke, who love them both dearly let them freely leave. Tristan however believes he should be in the war fighting for his country so he sends Isolde and the maid away and goes back to fight for his country. Tristan gets mortally wounded during a battle and dies in Isolde arms (she got back to shore to find him). The movie concludes with a note saying that Marke is now the new king and that Isolde disappeared after burying Tristan, her true love and planted a twin trees on his grave to symbolize their love. We also know that the feud between England and Ireland ended and both countries reigned in peace. The theme of both stories is Tragic and forbidden love. Their parents are the main factor for both those themes. Romeo and Juliet Shows tragic young love and forbidden love because their parents do not accept their love for each other. The main reason why the family doesn’t accept their love is because of the feud that has been going on between those families for generations. It’s also tragic because Romeo kills himself for Juliet. Juliet, who is in fact not dead, awakens and seeing Romeo dead kills herself for Romeo. Because of the hate between those families Romeo and Juliet had to die and their tragic story ended up with the reconciliation of the two families. . Tristan and Isolde is a Forbidden love because Isolde is promised to another man and therefore they shouldn’t love each other and they cannot openly show their love. The story is also very tragic because Tristan dies during the war and Isolde just disappeared and no one heard of her ever since so we can either assumed she died too or that she anonymously continued her life. In Both those stories the three main factors are: Love, Death& tragedy as well as family. Even though both of those stories are really different they are also very similar because of those three main factors. Love is probably the most important factor in both stories.

. In both stories the lovers fell in love at first sight with someone they should not have fallen in love with. Whether (like in Romeo and Juliet) you cannot love the person because of family reasons or whether (like in Tristan and Isolde) you cannot love the person because this person is already “Promised” it is Forbidden love just the same.
Fate is also an important factor in those stories. In both stories the lovers met each other in time when they needed someone most. Tristan Met Isolde when he needed Physical care and help to survive. Isolde met Tristan when she needed to get away from all those marriage worries (she was promised in marriage to Morholt). Romeo met Juliet when he needed to get over Rosaline and when he needed to stop depressing and Juliet met Romeo after she heard she might have to get married soon. All those aren’t coincidence; it is what helped them to fall in love with each other. If Romeo wasn’t depressed he wouldn’t have came to the party, if Juliet wasn’t trying to escape from Paris if Tristan didn’t get hurt or if Isolde didn’t worry about her marriage those people would have never met so therefore it was fate that they met but it was also necessary for the continuing of the stories.
In both stories the lovers are mentioned as being star-crossed lovers. (Star crossed lovers means: a pair of lovers whose relationship is said to be hopeless from the time it begins.) They have all those problems that stop them from having a regular love relationship. The similarity is that they both had to Date secretly (in Romeo and Juliet the lovers have to hide from the parents and in Tristan and Isolde they have to hide from the husband). In both stories the Characters were caught in a Love triangle. Both Tristan and Marke loved Isolde and both Romeo and Paris loved Juliet. That led to more conflicts in the stories. (Isolde not wanting to hurt her husband feelings and Juliet obligation to like Paris from her parents.)
In both stories the lovers are held back from each other. They cannot do whatever they want, whenever they want, wherever they want. In Romeo and Juliet they are still held back by the strength of devotion to their parents. In Tristan and Isolde they are held back from the outside entourage. They cannot publicly show their love to each other because Isolde is already married. Moving on to the topic of marriage. In both Stories marriage has a pretty big symbol. In Romeo and Juliet they love each other and get married secretly while Juliet is also promised to Paris (she wasn’t promised yet but she knew she was going to be.) In Tristan and Isolde its even more complicated. Isolde was supposed to get married to Morholt but he then died. The king then made a competition and the winner could marry
His daughter. Tristan won it on the behalf of Marke (not knowing the girl he loves was her) and Marke and Isolde then got married. Tristan and Isolde loved each other and had a secret affair together behind the Husband back.

As you can see, even if those Stories are very different from each other they are still quite similar. They both are love stories with the theme of forbidden and Tragic Love But in the end both conflicts between the families or country ended. Those stories also show a lot of miscommunication between the lovers and that is what affected their choice or even their lives. Both writer made the story extreme so that the point could get across. Romeo and Juliet + Tristan and Isolde are just different stories with similar Themes.
