During that time, the Capulet and Montague families were having a disagreement. For some unknown reason, the two despised each other which caused many duels and deaths. Tybalt, who is a Capulet, killed a Montague named Mercutio. This enraged Romeo, and so he killed Tybalt. This was just the beginning of many problems. Once the prince found out what had happened in Verona, he tried to restore the peace, so he exiled Romeo. This act made Romeo upset so he said, “Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say ‘death,’ for exile hath more terror in his look, much more than death.” (3.3.13-15). Neither Romeo nor Juliet believed that they can live without each other. That’s when Juliet seeks the help of Friar Lawrence. If the families did not have such a deep hatred for each other, then no one would have died. There were so many fights and disputes, that Romeo and Juliet just could not bear to live a life that didn’t involve the other. Many would argue that the fighting of families didn’t affect the relationship at all; they had gotten married any way. However, if the families had supported the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, then they could have been together openly. All of the suffering could have been avoided if the families resolved all of the
