Introduction:
Romeo and Juliet is the greatest love story of all time. It was written in 1595 by William Shakespeare. It is so popular even today that it has been translated in over fifty languages. It is written in Elizabethan style and is a tragic revenge love story as those plays were the most popular at that time. In this essay I will look at: the themes of the play such as love hate; death and life etc, Shakespeare's intensions
We know from the start of this play that the play involves two feuding families "from forth the fatal loins of these two foes", a tragic love story "a pair of star crossed lovers take their life"
Q. Can a modern audience relate Shakespeare’s play? Including your analysis how each composer has presented the following aspect in their text, characters, themes and structure of the text. * Young people still fall passionately, obliviously; insanely in love (Romeo and Juliet are about 14) * The conflicts of older people in authority still have tragic consequences for the innocent. * It compares to our modern society because most themes carry over from the play to our life today in modern society. Millions of people fall in love with each other and their parents disagree with their decisions. Some even resort to death, suicide and abuse, most of these aspects are covered in Romeo and Juliet. * It compares to youth today because most of the same themes carry over into the modern society. People fall in love every day, there are still families who dislike and argue over each other. Families who often argue teach their younger generation to dislike the other family causing them to altercate and kill each other out of spite and hatred, and people still make stupid choices in life. Hopefully we learn from the mistakes of others and do not repeat it. Unfortunately Romeo and Juliet shows the nasty side of human altercations.
