Ronald Edmunds Summary
This article talks about Ronald Edmunds, and some others, approach to learning. They say to be an effective school you need these five characteristics: strong leadership, a good emphasis on learning, a friendly school atmosphere, keeping a good eye on students as they progress, and having good expectations for their students and staff members. However, other successful school movements have made new philosophical and political drift along a common ground: that all students learning can improve. On the other side, this idea can have some faults. One example is that this idea does not consider that some students learn at different paces. Each student has a different home setting, so he or she may not be able to study, or to complete homework.

In the article " Our Schools Must Do Better" by Bob Herbert basically telling readers our school system needs more improvements. Bob Herbert mentioned in the article "The first is teacher quality, a topic that gets talked about incessanlty." The first thing that came in my mind how teachers needs to also work hard with their students. All teachers from different levels of grades should b able to push their students to work harder. Some Schools has teachers who just let their students do what ever they want, and not even make to the next grade level. Bob Herbert also mentioned how " Studies have clearly shown that good teachers and the not-so-good ones can ususally be identified." Teachers should always want to show the parnets that thier children are in good hands. He basically wants to improve on the school environment.…

The following information was gathered in an interview with Andrea Williams, principal of Theresa Bunker Elementary School. In my experience working with Mrs. Williams as a teacher in this school as well as the time spent learning from her during these interviews, I can say with utmost assurance that Mrs. Williams takes her job as instructional leader very seriously. It is her top priority to lead this school in such a way that student learning is the center of all instructional decisions that she and the teachers make. She feels strongly that it is her primary responsibility to ensure the learning of all students. She strives to build a culture where student learning is the highest priority for each member of the staff. Mrs. Williams…

    Summary of Edmund Gettier

    • 2 Pages

According to Plato’s theory that knowledge is justified true belief, in order to know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe the relevant true proposition, but one must also have a good reason for doing so. In his paper, Edmund Gettier argued that there are situations in which one's belief may be justified and true, yet fail to count as knowledge. He presented two examples to show that it is possible for a person to be justified in believing something that is thought to be true, but is not true because of the reasons they thought. Gettier claimed that it was possible to have "justified true belief" about something and yet it would not be considered knowledge. In other words, justified true belief might be necessary for knowledge, but it is not sufficient for claiming that one really has knowledge on a certain subject. By providing counterexamples Gettier is able to illustrate where a person can have a justified true belief that is not knowledge.…

As the principal of James S. Russell Middle School, my philosophy is simple. I believe that if we invest in our students and expand upon their previous knowledge, we can explore uncharted territory. By “thinking outside of the box" and striving to teach the whole child, we are destined to intersect with success. My belief is that if I continue to successfully motivate the RMS student, faculty, and staff to do their very best and extend their personal limits, the success for our division will be exhibited…

The most important qualities of an outstanding educator are those that improve teaching and enhance student learning. There are several qualities that an educator should possess in order to be an outstanding educator; however, one of the most significant qualities that an educator should possess is caring about his/her job. If a teacher does not genuinely care about teaching, his/her ideas and knowledge will never be put into place. Without caring about improvement, his/her students, and content knowledge, no other qualities will matter. The most powerful quality of an outstanding educator is the ability to be flexible and reflect on his/her own teaching in order to enhance learning for all students.…

An interesting case that was currently brought before the Supreme Court was Missouri vs. Frye. I found this case interesting due to the injustice that was provided by Frye’s counsel, and that Frye insisted on committing the same crime over and over again even though he knew he had an open case concerning driving under a suspended license. There were many sources and jurisdictions related to criminal law that also relates to this case. Criminal liability is when one takes responsibility for committing a crime, and accomplice liability is when someone helps someone commit a crime. Actus reus means guilty act, mens rea means guilty mind, and concurrence means the equality of rights. Actus reus and mens rea are both necessary in order for a defendant to prove criminal liability.…

It may also require them to change their major if they are off track for too long. Article one feels that this is a great thing and that it leads to a greater percentage of overall completion of a course. Article two however, feels that this could lead to babying the students where they do not need to keep track for what they need to accomplish and that they are losing an education in time management. Article two also feels that the students are adults and they should be responsible for their own time management. I feel that although it may coddle the student some, however students may still need some help to make sure that they are on course. Students may not even realize that they are not doing well and that they are on a path to failure. This system would allow a student to realize that they are not doing well and enable them to correct the…

What makes a good teacher? Is a good teacher based off the knowledge that each student brings out of the classroom, or is it based off how a teacher motivates their students to become what they have inspired to be, inside and outside of a classroom? A good teacher to me is a person who can motivate a student or even a friend to work to hard to reach a new level. Now that new level can be in any area ranging from education, sports, or even music. While growing up, all of my good teachers had similar qualities but each had their own method of teaching. It is interesting to understand how each style of teaching worked best for them, and was also effective in the classroom. For a better understanding on what makes a good teacher, this paper will be explaining the major topics such as teaching strategies, attributes, and other characteristics that I believe are important from my research in educational psychology.…

    The Potential of Children

Concerning the nature of students, I believe all children are not born with the same level of intelligence, but all children have the capacity to learn. I do not think that children are born entirely good or entirely bad. A child is influenced by his surroundings, and models his behavior to match the people closest to him. Knowledge is relative, and the level of success a child achieves in school is directly correlated to the amount of support and encouragement he or she receives at home. Public education serves a variety of different functions. Most importantly, education helps to shape children into competent, self-sufficient adults. Schools reflect and promote society’s values. Important social skills needed in the work force and everyday life are learned at school, such as sharing, compromise, and the importance of teamwork. As a student, I want to encourage and help children to reach their full potential. I want students to realize that they are all different, and understand that diversity is a good thing. I believe that there are different types of intelligence, and creativity is just as important as logic. Teachers’ behavior should reflect values such as tolerance, compassion, forgiveness, and open-mindedness. Effective communication skills are needed to encourage students to share their concerns. Teachers should not try to persuade students with their personal points of view, nor should they shy away from showing students that they have strong beliefs. An ideal classroom environment is one that allows students to feel free to express individual beliefs. Concerning discipline, research shows the time spent disciplining students is negatively related to achievement. Flexibility is an important aspect of discipline. Constantly taking away privileges and threatening punishment can cause students to feel intimidated and victimized. I consider my attitude towards education to be eclectic. I agree with the idea that people learn best from what they consider most…

The qualities of an outstanding teacher are manifold. However some of the most important qualities are passion, leadership, classroom management, and content knowledge. Teachers serve several roles and each requires certain qualities. Essentially teachers accommodate the academic, social, and emotional needs of their students. This requires the aforementioned qualities to be exhibited consistently. When novice teachers begin teaching they possess a passion for their work. As time progresses that passion evolves into determination. The passion that an outstanding teacher has can reflect through their effectiveness. While in the classroom they have learned to adapt to various learning styles and classroom dynamics. Teaching is demanding in a variety of ways, which include time, effort, and commitment. A sense of selflessness also remains present, for these teachers overextend themselves in a productive manner to fulfill their objectives. In addition passionate teachers communicate with students and their parents, which creates a team effort to ensure progression. An outstanding teacher should also be a leader and good listener. Students seek teachers for guidance, so it is imperative that teachers display their leadership skills, while encouraging students to work towards guiding each other. As a leader one must be a responsible individual with integrity: take into account the views and concerns of others, and serve as mediators. Every outstanding teacher utilizes superior classroom management techniques. A healthy classroom environment should be safe, resourceful, and productive. By remaining organized with teaching aids and consistent with discipline measures, a system should be created in which students serve active roles in the classroom. These roles should include classroom assistants, and peer mediators. Furthermore outstanding teachers engage all…
