Ronald Reagan Biography
Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois, to Jack and Nelle Wilson Reagan. He was raised in a poor family in northern Illinois. He went to Eureka College in 1932. As his first job he was a sports broadcaster and later moved to Hollywood to start his career as an actor in 1937. He starred in a few major productions and was twice elected president of the Screen Actors Guild. While he worked there, he focused on rooting out the Communist influence. In 1962, he switched parties and became a Republican, claiming that he had not left the party but the party had left him. In 1966, he was elected as governor to California and was reelected in 1970. In 1968 and 1976, he ran for the Republican nominee, but both times lost. …show more content…
She had a very strong influence in her husband’s decision making and also help him decide many of his personal and diplomatic decisions. Although there have been many scandals-- her being involved with astrologers-- who she consulted with on important matters such as the President’s schedule. Nancy Reagan was born on July 6, 1921, to Kenneth Seymour Robbins and Edith Luckett. Her parents divorced in 1928 and she was sent to live with her aunt. She attended Smith College in Massachusetts and majored in English and drama, and graduated in 1943. She then went on to become a clerk. She also had parts in a few Broadway musicals. She moved to California and met a divorced, heartbroken Ronald Reagan, whom she married in 1952. After becoming the first lady of California in 1967 to 1975, she then encouraged Ronald Reagan to run for the Republican nominee in 1976 instead of running for a third term in California. However, he lost to Gerald Ford. But in 1980, he again ran for the nominee and won. He went on to win the presidency of the United States. Nancy Reagan played a very pivotal role in managing her husband’s campaign and organizing his schedule.

At age 69 he was the oldest president. One of Reagan’s biggest accomplishments was to help bring an end to the Cold War and stop any further expansion of Communism which Reagan despised. Reagan also fought on the issue concerning school prayer. Within 69 days of his presidency an assassination attempt was made on his life by crazy gunman John Hinckley Jr. Four people were injured in this attack including Reagan. But none of the four men died except for Reagan’s press secretary James Brady, who was paralyzed from the attack and later died of causes from the attack years later. In 1984, Reagan defeated Democrat Walter Mondale and was reelected for a second term. Reagan won a record setting 525 electoral votes after the election. In 1984, Reagan also became the first president to host the Olympic Games in the United States. In 1982, Reagan declared the War on Drugs, and in 1986 he signed a drug enforcement bill that budgeted 1.7 billion dollars to fund the war on drugs.
