1. Problems Identification
1.1 Tri-American Corporation
Introduction
Tri-American Corporation was a big corporation produced and processed aluminium into a variety of products. It had five subsidiaries in United States and affiliates in fifteen different countries. The aluminium raw material was mined in Jamaican West Indies and then shipped to two plants in
Louisiana to be processed into alumina. Alumina was then shipped to one of three locations for conversion into primary aluminium. The primary aluminium was then moved to fabricating plants for further processing. Besides, it also made and sold refractories and industrial chemicals.
Tri-American Corporation was governed by a board of directors, consist of the chairman, vice chairman, president and twelve vice presidents. It employed approximately 22000 employees totally.
However, each of the subsidiaries and branches functioned as independent units managed by the plant managers. There were a general policy set by the board, but each plant manager can apply his / her own interpretation and decision.
Problems Identification
Tri-American Corporation implements the Decentralization System to manage all the branches located in many locations. That system can produce a lot of benefits if it is correctly implemented.
However, it can also cause so many problems if it does not implemented properly. Decentralization
System applied by Tri-American Corporation is one of the issues need to be analyzed in order to solve its organizational problem from the bigger point of view.
