In the book The Leaving, I think the author, Tara Alterbrando, was trying to get the point across not to trust everyone you meet and to be aware of your surroundings. In this book, 6 kindergarteners were abducted and only 5 of them returned 11 years later with no memory of what happened to them. It turns out that their principal along with a scientist took them and tried to erase their memory of a school shooting. The experiment ended up lasting longer than expected and they had to keep the kids for 11 more years. People shouldn’t have trusted the principal and should’ve been paying more attention and been aware of the kids.…
In 2010, Laura Hillenbrand released a brilliant tribute to a resilient national hero, Louis “Louie” Zamperini, whose story was not widely known at the time. Fast forward four years and this tribute, Unbroken, has been made into a major motion picture and the remarkable story of the Olympian-turned-soldier has reached the masses. In the book Unbroken, which I read shortly after it was released, Hillenbrand chronicles Zamperini’s epic and, at times, terrifying odyssey. Raised in California, he was the son of Italian immigrants.…

Room 101 is implied to be specifically tailored for each individual. Room 101 exists to cause the deepest betrayal towards someone. Room 101 manipulates people to the point that they abandon their own ideals and love for one another. Winston and Julia did not love each other enough to stay loyal to each other in Room 101. Betrayal is the principle moral in this society, whether it is betraying Big Brother, or being forced to betray the things that you love and believe in.…

In today’s society, people tend to group one and an another into different categories according to their own social identity. An individual’s gender identity refers to which group where one belongs to. The attributes assigned to both males and females are different because of gender differences. In “Becoming members of Society: Learning the Social Meanings of Gender” by Aaron Devor, the author argues that factors such as beliefs and behaviors help differentiate the sexual identity of a person. In addition, Devor views sex as an instrument of determining gender. It is believed that there are only two types of sexes that exist. Which are male and female. On the other hand, “Girl”, by Jamaica Kincaid, the mother tries to forces prescribe behavior,…
The movie Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand depicts a clear description of the experiences and struggles that those who fought in it had to endured. Timely, it also shows the effect of WWII on the relationships between different ethnicities and races as people found something in common with those they once considered as outcast of their social network. However it also created the opposite effect in which it divided people and placed them to fight against each other for a cause they themselves did not hold; it teared down relationships and friendships . Unbroken shows the changes of WII on the attitudes we had towards those who surround us, whether it was to our countrymen, immigrants or international individuals. From the start of the movie, Louie…

The dividend discount model is the way of valuing a firm according to the theory that a stock is value the discount sum of all of its future dividends payments. It is a equation for using the discounting them back to present value and predicted dividends to calculate the value of stock.
