Introduction
The birth of my hatred for vacuuming began at the young age of eleven when I was permanently assigned the chore of vacuuming my home three times per week. My hatred ran so deep that it lasted eighteen long years until I received the best Christmas present of all time- the Roomba. The Roomba is a robotic vacuum that was released in 2002. It thoroughly and effortlessly cleans all the floors in your home with the push of a button. It was designed for people like myself, who would rather do any chore other than vacuum. In Don Norman’s book, The Design of Everyday Things, he says the greatest things are designed when their creators are “focusing on the true needs of the people who use the product.” (Norman, 2013, p. 263) It is so apparent that the …show more content…
I thought it was too good to be true so I refused to pay the high asking price. My dad must have seen me drooling over it, as he was the one who generously gifted it to my family. The Roomba is a black and silver, sleek, round, robot with a small diameter of only thirteen inches. Underneath there are two rows of brushes that are much like a regular vacuum’s. However, the Roomba also has a spinning three-pronged bush that extends from its body to allow it to effectively clean corners. It has a large button on top which is used to start it and stop it. There is also a programming function that allows you to set a time for the Roomba to automatically run every day. This robot is so smart that it can memorize the floorplan of the room it cleans, and does it faster each time. After it has completed its cleaning cycle, it returns to its charging station so it is ready for the next time. It is loud like a traditional vacuum cleaner, but I run it every night when I go to bed and have never been able to hear it from
