Roommate Profile Research Paper
An essential part of having an enjoyable college experience starts with a good roommate. Unfortunately not all roommates fall into this category. To me a bad roommate is someone undesirable to live with. For the purpose of this essay we will create a character named Corey. Corey could be someone who is unclean, invades my privacy, or behaves differently in private than in public. Imagine a sink that is filled to the top on both sides with someone else’s dirty dishes. I asked Corey to do the dishes as well as clean the sink before he goes to bed. He agrees. I wake up the next morning to find the dishes are still there, plus a fresh bowl of uneaten cereal. Looking away from the sink I scroll to the refrigerator only to find that he
has left unused beef from last night dinner open causing a horrible stench to be unleashed. Begrudgingly I decide to fix his problem. That evening I have a stern conversation with him. Over the next few weeks he does not change so now I avoid the kitchen whenever possible and apply frebreeze as needed. I’m sitting in my room watching Netflix after a long day of class. I see my door slung open as well as core in my face bragging about how well he did on a test. He turns around asking what I am watching during the worste possible time. Only to begin judging what I am watching. After this incident I ask Corey to knock the next time only for him to forget the promise he makes the next day.
He acknowledges you at home only to find out when that he disses you when in a group around others. He is a completely different person with me in public than in private. This is a characteristic of a disingenuous person in general also indicating a lack of true friendship. For instance, when in a group with this person I bring up the fact that he loves a specific computer video game he denies it claiming he has given it up. Yet he plays hours on end of it while at home. Essentially he is putting on a facade for the general public, both lying and leaving you hanging out a dry. Whether they are messy, false, or invasive, the main problem is a lack of fixing their flaws. In summation a bad roommate can best be described as a person who will not change who they are to better accommodate with others.
