My groups experiment was, The Effect of Darker Regions on Planaria Movement. The purpose of this experiment was to see whether or not the planaria preferred the white region or the dark region. My hypothesis was, If the Planaria are placed on the white side then they will move to the dark side because the planaria have a strong negative geo-tropism and would move away from white side and go to the dark side. The independent variable was the two sides of the petri dish, which had one white region and one dark region. The dependent variable consisted of how many…

Waverly Jong, in The Joy Luck Club, has always been fearful of her mother. She is always afraid of what her mother has to say about the decisions that she makes in her life. One of the things that she has always been scared of is what her mother has to say regarding her future husband Rich. She began to develop a fear inside of her that “mother knows how to hit a nerve. And the pain I feel is worse than any kind of misery” (2411). This fear makes a huge impact on her every decision because she will always question her actions. She will think twice, once from her point of view, then from her mother’s point of view. This makes it very hard for her to make decisions in her everyday life. Waverly automatically makes these assumptions of what her mother will say regarding her future husband Rich. Another reference in regard to Rich, one night Waverly was on the phone with Marlene, a friend of hers. Marlene was advising Waverly that she should speak with her mother about Rich because after all, Marlene says, “It’s not as if Rich is the scum of the earth. He’s a tax attorney like you, for Chrissake. How can she criticize that?” (2364). In return Waverly tried to explain to Marlene how complicating is for her mother to understand her at times,” you don’t know my mother”, she says. “She never thinks anybody is good enough for anything.” (2364). It reflects how her mother can be such a big impact on her. Waverly does not want to let her mother down by making the wrong choice. Therefore, her mother’s opinion makes a tremendous impact on her…

King Midas wanted nothing but gold. He loved his shiny, golden coins more than anything else. The room he had to hold his money was nothing short of capacious. One day a satyr was brought before him. He recognized the satyr. It was Dionysus’s main satyr. The God and the satyr were coming back from a trip. While on their way back, the Satyr had too much to drink. He decided a nap would be appropriate and fell asleep in the king’s garden. The king decided to let the satyr stay and kept him for ten days. After those days were over, he took the satyr back to Dionysus. The God, delighted by Midas’s kindness, gave him one wish. Midas knew exactly what he wanted, a touch that could turn anything into gold. Dionysus warned the foolish king that he would regret his wish, but he granted the wish anyway. The King was told to wait until the next morning to get his golden touch. When Midas awoke the next morning, he reached for the nearest thing to see if it would turn to gold, and it did. He was so happy, for he thought he would be the richest king ever.. He probably was for a while, until he realized that everything he touched would turn to gold. Midas soon realized that he could not even touch food or drink without it turning to gold. It was in that moment that he felt his heart shatter. His touch was toxic. He would starve. It was then that his daughter ran…
