Rosa Parks lived in Tuskegee, Alabama. People were rushing home after a hard day, and, at 42 years old, Rosa was one of them. She had a busy day at her tailoring job.
There were not enough seats on the bus, so when a white man entered and wanted to sit, the bus driver told Rosa to stand. She refused and was arrested. Many other black civil rights activists also contributed to helping her in the peaceful protests which are known as boycotts.
She was one of the first people who rebelled against the Government’s laws and refused to give her seat up to a white man. Seeing how everything had changed, made me realise that this was a big step for black people.
Other than the segregation in buses, they had big problems in their every day lives, because some employers only wanted white employees and weren’t permitted to go in every restaurant and had to use dirty toilets which only black people were allowed to be in.
Seeing pictures of this kind is very sad. Thinking back 50 years ago, black people weren’t classified as ‚humans‘, they were seen as animals but this has changed which is good since it means that there is no racial segregation or inequality.
Everyone is allowed to have their own rights and everyone, no matter what colour skin is regarded as equal. Rosa Parks was a very inspiring person and stood up for what she believed in.
I am sure that a lot of other people didn't disobey the rules because they didn't want to get into trouble, but Rosa Parks was willing to get arrested and fought for civil rights. I think that what she did was absolutely extraordinary. It is hard to stand up
