Rosacea
Rosacea is a common long-term skin disease that affects people over the age of 30. Women, especially during menopause, and people who have fair skin most likely have it. It doesn’t only affect the skin but it also affects the skin around the eyes. There are also trials that is being done in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to find out how Rosacea is caused.
What is Rosacea
Rosacea is a skin disease that affects people between the age of 30 and 60. This skin disease is also long-term. Women are more common than men.
What does it look like1
There is frequent flushing of the face, vascular rosacea, inflammatory rosacea, and several other conditions involving the skin.

and chin. It also occurs in early stages of rosacea. Along with flushing there is a burning sensation, when creams or cosmetic are applied to the face. The face may also get swollen.
Vascular Rosacea. It causes persistent flushing and redness. The blood vessels under the skin may get enlarged, showing through the skin as small red lines. The skin may also be swollen and feel warm.
Inflammatory Rosacea.
Causes persistent redness and pink bumps and bumps containing pus. Inflammation of the eye as well as telangiectasia may occur.
Why the Eye Might be affected. People who have eye conditions caused by this disease may have redness, dryness, itching, burning, tearing, and the sensation of having sand in the eye. Most people who have Rosacea mostly have this symptom.
Symptoms of Rosacea. Symptom include flushed, red face with sensitive, dry skin that may burn or sting, small bumps and pimples or acne breakouts, coarse and thick skin with bumpy texture, and red, dry, irritated eyes.
Causes of Rosacea. Doctors and scientists do not know what causes this disease. All they know is that there is something that is irritating the skin and causing flare-ups. People who have this disease say that causes flare-ups includes alcohol, exercise, sun, wind exposure, hot weather, stress, spicy food, and hot baths. Doctors also found out that it can run in families. Doctors said that it is easy to diagnose, because there is pattern to the disease. Also most of the time tests are not needed or
used.
Treatment for Rosacea. There is currently no cure for this disease. But doctors can prescribe medicines to control their symptoms from getting worse. For the redness and breakouts it can be treated with pills, such as low-dose antibiotics like doxycycline, skin cream that contain medicine, like azelaic acid, brimonidine, or metronidazole. Redness from tiny blood vessels can be treated by lasers and another light treatment called intense pulsed light. Artificial tears or prescription eye drops that contain medicine, such as cyclosporine can treat dry, red, and irritated eyes. The think or bumpy skin on the nose or face can be treated with cosmetic surgery.
How to prevent Flare-ups. You can talk to dermatologist to prescribe treatments and prescriptions to control the bothersome symptoms, find the triggers that can cause the flare-ups, protect your face from the sun and use sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher every day, be gentle with your skin and use skin care products for sensitive skin, try not to rub or scrub your skin, and take care of your eyes. See your doctor if any of the symptoms gets worse.
