Rowell Williams God Hates Analysis

The concept that is have chosen from the article that I am doing is the concept of “God Hates” (Powell-Williams and Powell-Williams, 7 2016). Throughout the article that author shows many times when the Westboro Baptist Church used this phrase to get their point across to people as funerals and LBGTQ parades. In the article the members at the Westboro Baptist Church admit to using the phrase that “God Hates” due to the fact of how much attention that it gets them when they say it (Powell-Williams and Powell-Williams 2016). Before the use of the phrase “God Hates” they did not get that much attention from the media and people like they wanted to, they used different slur and phrases, but it was not packing the punch that they felt like they were looking for (Powell-Williams and Powell-Williams 2016).
Part of my family on my mom’s side is from Mississippi. They are a very conservative group of people who are stuck if their ways. One if my cousins who is from there is gay. My family loves him very much, but they do not except the way that he is. His mom has even once told him, “I love you, but you are going to hell”. Now to me this would have to be the hardest thing for a son to here from his mother, due to the fact that this is supposed to be the person who tries their best to comfort you no matter how bad the situation is and no matter how many people talk down to you for who you are. The reason I feel that my example is similar to the concept that I have chosen is due to the fact that the Westboro Baptist Church and my family believe that anything that deals with homosexuality results on God turning his back on them and sending them to hell. My family is using the “Victim Blaming” concept for my cousin because he is gay. They do not tell him this every day and protest him everywhere he goes, but they will not except it and have even cried over the fact that he is
