Roy Fox Lichtenstein: Pop Art

Pop art started in the mid 50’s in Brittan and then later spread to the US. It came from Dadaism appropriating images of common objects such as washing powder, soda bottles and soup cans as it was hard to find new interesting good quality things to paint after many supplies were used in world war 2 so the artists had to appropriate these regular items to make them eye catching and icons. Roy Fox Lichtenstein was born on October 27, 1923. He grew up in New York with his father Milton Lichtenstein and mother Beatrice Werner Lichtenstein. When Roy Lichtenstein was younger he enjoyed science and comic books and not untill his teenage years when he became intrested in art and started taking classes from the age of 14. He went to Ohio State university
until his studies were interrupted in 1943 as he was sent to Europe for World War II. But came back in 1946 and finished his undergraduate degree and marsters degree in fine arts. In the early 60’s

is one of the first American Pop Art artists. Some of his first pieces ranged widely in style and subject but showed that he had good skill and technique in his work. It was not untill 1961 when his pop art style became to show commonly in his artwork but his work lacked originality and then he started copying scenes for comic strips. But was very similar to the pop art style that he is known for today.
