This report first entails the trend of multifunctional fashion that was most currently introduced by the brand RuckJack in 2016 and how it influences the potential emerging trend for 2017-2018. The considered prediction is that the concept of transformable clothing will greatly take part in a design strategy that enhances the practicality of lifestyles, as well as embracing modernity and simplicity in apparels. Thus, there may be several drawbacks or threats that may occur from the trend. Towards the end, the report reaches to where and how the author’s future self will dive in the professional global fashion industry

The creator came up with the idea when experiencing issues during traveling, which was a drastic temperature fluctuation during a hiking trip. It encouraged the designation of a product that would ease individuals in carrying a jacket, backpack and other supplies more conveniently (Trethewey, 2016). Several brands that started applying such multifunctional and transformable capability are Adiff, Tara & Co, LVL XIII and Dries Van Noten.

As previously mentioned, a brand called Adiff started to apply the multifunctional design in the same year. Founded by Angela Luna; a fashion student from New York, Adiff intends to provide functional apparels that at the same time address global social issues of refugees. Specifically, through its prominent design of a tent that can be turned into a wearable jacket seen on fig 2. (Bembenek, 2016). They demonstrate unique forms of high-level utility through creative design ideas that not only looks good but also feels good. It enhances practicality. In the long term, multifunction products allow consumers to better their habit in over-consumption. Thus, pushing boundaries that would give the opportunity of setting benchmarks in innovative and smart clothing. This could serve to even benefit social matters as how the brand Adiff expects to achieve through its products (refer to fig 4). For every Adiff jacket purchased, the brand will donate one to a refugee (Bambenek, 2016).

On the other hand, highly functional clothing generally requires a greater cost of technical manufacturing and design. There are commonly substantial key steps that should be followed more compared to ordinary garments. Several of which pointed out by Cunha and Broega (2009) includes; the raw materials and tools that contribute for the manufacturing, the comfort on top of the utility, design research, detailed product test and evaluation and the wide-ranging design approach.
