The Loyalty and Loss written by Margaret M. Storey is a well-written and persuasive book studying how the Unionists in Alabama, the Deep South state, confronted the Confederate authorities during the civil war and their life in the Reconstruction. The first interesting thing I found was that the diversity of the Unionists. The author tried to find the similarities among the different Unionists and surprisingly she found out that the Unionists were highly distributed. Some of them could from the infertile hill county and the others could from the rich Tennessee Valley. No matter how different their backgrounds were, all of them undertook great risks on defying the confederate authorities and fight for their belief.…

Purpose: In this lab, I will observe macroscopic changes that occur when mixing together certain chemicals and household cleaners. The mixing of the chemicals provided with each other and with acid/base indicators demonstrates how matter can change, and how chemistry can be seen with the naked eye. By mixing household cleaners with an acid/base indicator I hope to demonstrate how these changes can be related to everyday life.…

Gustavus Vassas was born Olaudah Equiano in the African province called Essaka in 1745. He was the youngest son of seven surviving children and was very close to his mother. He describes a happy childhood during which he learned - as all his people did - to work hard. He is kidnapped and taken as a slave while still very young and soon finds that he has a talent for the sea and for trading. By being very frugal, he is able to save enough to buy his freedom after only a few years, though his master initially refuses to honor their agreement for the sale. He does gain his freedom and soon returns to the sea, seeing there a greater opportunity for financial gain than any other he can find. He spends his time also in pursuit of an acceptable religious affiliation and eventually finds himself ready to become a missionary.…

    Albert Speer Analysis

Despite Albert Speer’s claims, as Minister of Armaments, it is inevitable that Albert Speer was aware of the use and abuse of forced labour and the appalling conditions of inmates at concentration camps and I find it hard to believe anything contrary. As Gitta Sereny suggests, Speer knew a lot more than what he led on, he knew what he was inevitably going to find out. Although Speer states in, Inside the Third Reich, “I did not investigate, I did not want to know”, this position of knowledge places him with direct personal responsibility for the use and abuse of forced labourers.…

According to me, the Union would have eventually won the war. The Union had a lot of power and a better army. They had better plans to invade the land such as the ports they took, the support and the congress passing laws such as the Emancipation Proclamation. The North invaded multiple ports giving the North access to the Confederate both by land and water. The North would have soon been able to take all the land instead making them surrender.…

Survival in Auschwitz tells of the horrifying and inhuman conditions of life in the Auschwitz death camp as personally witnessed and experienced by the author, Primo Levi. Levi is an Italian Jew and chemist, who at the age of twenty-five, was arrested with an Italian resistance group and sent to the Nazi Auschwitz death camp in Poland in the end of 1943. For ten terrible months, Levi endured the cruel and inhuman death camp where men slaved away until it was time for them to die. Levi thoroughly presents the hopeless existence of the prisoners in Auschwitz, whose most basic human rights were stripped away, when in Chapter 2 he states, "Imagine now a man who is deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his habits, his clothes, in short, of everything he possesses: he will be a hollow man, reduced to suffering and needs, forgetful of dignity and restraint, for he who loses all often easily loses himself" (27). With Survival in Auschwitz, Primo Levi provides a stark examination of human survival in the dehumanized society of a Nazi death camp. Throughout the book, Levi reinforces the theme that the prisoners of the death camp are reduced to being no longer men, but instead animals that must struggle to survive day by day or face certain death.…

Heinrich Himmler was the person who ordered the construction of Auschwitz. “He also was the commander of the SS.”(www.history.com) “He ordered for Auschwitz II(Birkenau) to be built.”(www.history.com) He went there and commanded that Auschwitz-Birkenau would be able to hold 100,000 prisoners. In 1941, Himmler briefed Commandant Hoss about the Final Solution, which was the Nazi plan to annihilate the Jews, Poles, gypsies, and others from Europe. “Lieutenant General Reinhard Heydrich formalised the Final Solution in a speech at the Wannsee conference.”(www.guardian.com) Rudolph Hoss was the first commandant of Auschwitz. “He identified the Silesian town of Oswiecim in Poland as a possible site for Auschwitz, the concentration camp. When the camps were being built the Germans isolated the camps from the outside world with barbed wire fencing.”(www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org) Another big person in Auschwitz was Josef Mengele. As the onset of World War II approached, Adolf Hitler’s secret police began to systematically arrest enemies of the regime. As the regime evolved, so did its desire to control incarcerated political enemies. The concentration camps meticulously kept records of its prisoners: Ethnicity, who they were, why they were imprisoned, and other facts and figures. As the regime turned towards mass killings as its solution to the “Jewish Question”, Nazi’s began the systematic killing of Jews in concentration camps. The Nazi obsession of organizing ethnicities reflects Nazi superiority and racism, as they saw many ethnicities to be used for exploitation in labor camps. The Nazi obsession of data and record keeping reflects Hitler’s wish for proof that the Aryan race would achieve dominance. Nazi organization is historically significant because it began the world’s first deliberately recorded genocide, and provided the evidence needed to prove the Holocaust occurred.…

Source B is a secret report prepared by the Nazi Party Supreme Court after the events of Kristallnacht. This source states that the German people were to blame for Kristallnacht in a ‘spontaneous’ attack on Jewish homes. As this report was prepared and published by the Nazis it is likely that they may have twisted the truth and pushed the blame onto the people to save themselves from blame. The fact that the report was published after the events of Kristallnacht further supports the sources unreliability as it seems as a cover up. Also as the source suggests that ‘such demonstrations were not to be organized by the party, but neither were they to be discouraged if they started spontaneously’, suggests the fact that the Nazis did not mind any spontaneous attacks showing their hatred for…

The holocaust is among the most notorious mass murders in the world, in which millions of Jews, gypsies, disabled people, and homosexuals were persecuted. In the graphic novel, Maus I: A Survivor’s Tale: My Father Bleeds History, by Art Spiegelman, Spiegelman interviews his father, Vladek, about his experiences during the holocaust and reveals the afflictions of the Jewish population. Through his delineation, Vladek exposes the heinous methods the Nazis used against the Jews in hopes of exterminating them entirely. Some methods the Nazis used to suppress the Jewish population include the spread of anti-semitic ideas, the relocation and division of families, and the use of concentration camps, all of which had immediate and long lasting repercussions.…
