Rudy: A Short Story
Rudy hated to go home with his left ear bleeding and his right eye almost closed. He is a 12 year old kid that is bullied at Middleton Middle School. Rudy opened the door to see his dog, Shepherd, stare at him with a gaze stronger than the sun. Rudy went through the door to find himself in a old, moldy house with the wallpaper peeling off like a banana. He walked over to the phone that had a voicemail on it, Rudy listened very closely as the speaker was muffled up with grime. All Rudy could hear was “Hey Rud……… how was you……… day………..hope your doin………….. fine……………. meet me at………..hospital,” the unknown character’s voice stated. Rudy instantly knew what the call was about, mom was done. Rudy ran to his bicycle while tripping on random garbage strewn across the floor and jumped onto the seat. …show more content…
Rudy burst through the doors and ran up the stairs, not even worrying about the elevator. 10 floors later, Rudy kept up the pace and went to his mom’s room and saw her lying on the bed with her eyes closed. The nurse walked in and said “She’s just taking a nap right now, just try not to disturb her,” Rudy walked over to his mom and looked at her skin that looked as pale as the snow. “Hey mom, how are you doing?,” Rudy whispered as he slowly creeped up on his mom. She opened her eyes to see Rudy by her side. “Hey bud, how’s your day,” mom said in a raspy voice. “Good, but did are you good, do you not have cancer anymore!?!,” Rudy’s voice raised as he started shaking in excitement. “They’re not sure, I’m hoping that it’s fine, but I don’t know,” mom replied as she struggled to sit up. The nurse walked in and told Rudy to leave as they were still testing on her.

Domaszewicz telephoned Ms. Williams at her sister’s home. Ms. Williams said that Mr. Domaszewicz was angry because of the conversation with Mr. Farr. Apparently, the Farr telephone conversation had involved an allegation that Mr. Domaszewicz had told someone in Morwell that he was going to kill Mr. Farr by Christmas. However, Ms. Williams also suggested that the allegation may have been the other way around. Evidently, Ms. Williams had previously considered that Messrs. Domaszewicz and Farr had been on friendly terms. During this conversation Mr. Domaszewicz said he was working on his car and advised Jaidyn had fallen over and he (Domaszewicz) had cleaned him up. He also did not say anything about the fact that Jaidyn had been bleeding. As it was raining Ms. Williams inquired of Mr. Domaszewicz as to whether he needed more clothes for Jaidyn. His response was to the effect that it did not matter because he was going to have a shower (or give Jaidyn a shower) and then bring him back to Katie Leskie’s. During this conversation Ms. Williams said she heard her son’s voice on the phone. Evidently he said the word “dog” (at this time Jaidyn was able to say the words “Mum”, “Dad” and…

I would overshare to whichever unfortunate employee had to ring me through at the store, and could never shake the sense of disparity I felt deep in my chest. I grew older faster than I could keep track of, and soon Frank had moved out to Colorado to pursue his education. He wasn’t interested in staying connected with me, no matter how hard I tried, and his visits home for the week of Christmas were quiet and uneventful. As the years went on and he started into his career path, his week at home grew shorter and shorter, until all I could count on was a phone call Christmas morning, which lasted all of about two minutes. Henry was unaffected by the lack of his son’s presence, and this caused me to feel even lonelier as I was bewildered by his lack of interest in both his son and his wife’s lives. And now here I am, seventy eight years old, a widow, silently trapped in my own mind, unable to escape and living off the machine that breathed for me. The hospital room is empty, except for a small hanging calendar and a chair pushed into the corner, the sounds of the machines echo rhythmically, although the room was small it sounded like a…

It was a bright and sunny day, and the last bell of the day just went off in St. Mark’s Academy. The rumbling of kids and the slamming of lockers was all you heard as the first day of school was over. You could see class syllabi being trampled on as everyone stormed out of the school and into their parent’s cars or buses. I lived a few blocks down from the school so I was expected to walk each and every day, but it wasn’t a lonely road as I had my friend Josh that just lived a street over from me. Josh and I have been best friends since 3rd grade and you could barely separate us from each other. We loved to play video games and we would talk about them just about every time were together. In the mites of our conversation of who could beat who in halo, Josh stopped and starred at the old abandoned house on Maple St. I turned and said to him and said “what’s up?” he looked and me then back at the house and said i dare you to walk around that house. I looked at him and laughed and said there was no way I would enter that house. The house gave off a foggy feel that made the hair stand up on your back; it had two broken windows, and a front door that would slam continuously as the wind blew. He then…

He was lying in his bed struggling to take every breath. The Hospice doctor said he wouldn’t live more than twenty-four hours now. Uncle Ralph’s chest sounded like a motor running because his lungs were so congested. We thought that suctioning out his lungs would help him to breathe a little easier so I volunteered to ask the nurse for help. Doctor Kinsley called for an available nurse. The one around the corner yelled back that she could come to his room. She was told that we requested some help for Ralph’s breathing, and she said, “Shall I dim the lights and open the windows for them too?”…
