He’s able to appear tougher when he needs to and he’s able to appear likable and funny in front of the Capitol audience. Katniss is alarmed by how much Rue reminds her of Prim, and she’s afraid that being sentimental and making this connection will hurt her in the arena. Rue and Katniss team up as they both have valuable skills assets that the other would like to utilise to their advantage such as when Rue manages to take a weapon unnoticed using the trees. In many ways, an alliance with Rue is an alliance to District 11 which Katniss can use to her benefit. Peter and Katniss act as if they are lovers in a ploy for the audience as a means to survive as seen when Katniss receives a note from Haymitch asking ‘You call that a kiss?’. The sarcastic tone makes Katniss realise that the ploy will be futile as if Haymitch is doubtful then others will be too. Both texts show that although they may not have been friends in normal circumstances, war has pushed them together and this has attributed to them…

There are people in this world who face many different trials and tribulations. Often, these trials help them realize who they are and what life means to them. This is the case with two native girls, April Raintree and Ashtoh-Komi, in 'April Raintree' and 'Where the Spirit Lives' respectively, who struggle against social prejudice. Both stories are unbelievable and have an emotional touch. It is based on the real lives of the native children. April Raintree is a Métis girl, while Ashtoh-Komi is Aboriginal. They are both amazing and remarkable characters. Both girls have been through many different problems. They face different types of abuse from those whom they live with, like emotional and physical abuse from people who think native people are dependent upon white people. Both girls are very strong because they survived all the difficulties they faced from the white people in their lives. Ultimately, both April and Ashtoh-Komi experience the different conflicts in their lives.…
Before Katniss ever leaves her home in Panem’s District 12, she is dating her hunting partner Gale Hawthorne who, like her, is very poor and struggles to survive. Gale’s father died in the same mine explosion as Katniss’ father which makes them all the more close. Gale is active, angry at the Capitol for all they have done, and outspoken which reflects on Katniss as they both hunt together, taking care of family, acting as providers for their families. Though Gale is not necessarily a match for Katniss, despite their similar backgrounds and friendship, they get along and understand each other. For the most part, Gale and Katniss have an equilibrate liaison where they are both equal in the woods…
I think I probably wouldn't be able to survive in the wilderness, much less if people are trying hard to make sure I don't survive until the next day. I am used to getting my food in the supermarket, already processed, and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to hunt, kill or even build a fire. But Katniss Everdeen could.…
Katniss's alliance with Rue tears her apart when Rue is killed by the boy in District one. Seeing Rue die makes Katniss not angry at the boy who killed Rue, but ultimately the Capitol. As she said,”...I can't bring myself...to hate the boy from District 1...It's the capitol I hate for doing this to all of us.”(Pg.236) As an act of rebellion, Katniss puts flowers on Rue's body to show the audience how sick and twisted this really was. But ultimately, during the whole novel It was Katniss's love for…

Every victor has their own way of dealing with the trauma imposed by the Hunger Games. Haymitch drinks, Katniss hunts, and Peeta paints. Peeta paints jarring depictions of events that happened in the Games. One of which is Rue right before dies. This one of course is very potent to Katinss’s grief.…
Character archetypes explain the roles and purpose of characters in popular stories. Since some of the characters are based on our personalities, the archetypes can relate to us too. Many of the popular books like the Harry Potter series and The Hunger Games uses these archetypes to express their characters. The hero in Harry Potter is Harry Potter and the shadow in the series is Voldemort. It is the same thing for The Hunger Games too. Katniss Everdeen is the hero and the herald is Haymitch who assist Katniss on her quest. These characteristics can be applied to us too. Your teachers are mentors who teach you valuable knowledge to help you in life or your quest of life. You are the hero in your view but that isn’t always the case for someone…
Katniss Everdeen inspires many with her powerful and strong feminine figure in the Hunger Games series. After Katniss volunteers for tribute, Prim, Katniss’ sister who was originally picked to be a tribute, starts screaming and crying. Katniss starts to become emotionally affected by Prim’s cries. Before she could shed a tear, Katniss realizes that “... everyone will make note of my tears, and I’ll be marked as a easy target. A weakling. I will give no one that satisfaction” (Collins 23). Katniss shows her strength and determination to be successful in the hunger games when she notices small details that make…
Since this is a unit that is focused around The Hunger Games, the reading portion of the lessons is rather obvious, as students need to read and comprehend the book to be successful. They are also asked to read various articles and interpret texts in order to respond thoughtfully and appropriately to discussion and writing topics. Since the reading aspect of language was covered, I tried to focus on the importance of incorporating the remaining three language skills – writing, speaking and listening – while creating this unit. I did this by paying special attention to ensuring that discussion and dialogue were abundant to allow students the opportunity to not only share their own ideas but also…
Towards the middle of Lord of the Flies, the young group of boys split into two different groups. Ralph, Piggy, Simon, and SamnEric were allies throughout the story until Simon passed away and SamnEric were kidnapped. That left Ralph and piggy to fend for themselves while Jack, Roger, the hunters, and a few little ones began taking over the island. Jack Stole SamnEric, torturing them to find information about Ralph and Piggy. This created a very different feeling than The Hunger Games. While Katniss was camping in the trees, waiting for people to pass by she spotted a young girl, Rue, who reminds her very much of her sister. They became partners after Katniss was stung by a Tracker Jacker and fell from the tree. Rue covered her in leaves and created a remedy to help Katniss heal. They were planning to kill Cato and his group but was unable to proceed because Rue was shot by one of the tributes in his group. Katniss killed him using the bow and arrow she collected and sung to Rue as she died. This shows a bond between them that was very strong in a big sister, little sister way. This is the first time people see Katniss cry and show remorse for the killings. She then tries to find Peeta and stumbled across his camouflaged body. He is hurt so she helps him to a nearby cave that was high enough to not be noticed. They…
