Rumble Fish By S. E. Hinton
In the novel Rumble Fish, by S.E Hinton, Rusty-James, a lover of gang fights, grows up in a dirty home. He lives with an alcoholic father. Therefore, his home life is not exactly the most ideal. Rusty’s father does not show much affection towards him. This causes Rusty to act out and involve himself in gangs. Rusty’s father misplaces his anger due to depression. Rusty-James basically fends for himself on a day to day basis. Also, he most likely knows that his dad does not care that much, and that is why Rusty-James does not make the best decisions as a teenager. His father could possibly work hard to change his status or better manage his money, but he does not try at all. To further my point, Rusty did not chose his father. He was born into

He cares about his two girls more than anything else in the whole world. The song Bridge Over Troubled Water relates very closely to Rusty. The song itself is very light, and has a lot of emotion in the lyrics. This is exactly how Rusty treats his two daughters. He always cares for them, and helps them when they are in need. “When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you” (Simon). This quote is very relatable to Rusty, as he always comforts his girls when times are tough, especially at night, when they have had problems in the book. Not only is he very caring to his daughters, but he loves his wife just as much. They do not see each other much at home, as both are busy at work, however they write each other notes and work together to run the household. You could say Rusty is a protective father bear for his family and he protects his cubs. :) (metaphor) The song also talks about how Simon will ease a person’s mind. Rusty is also very good at relaxing people, as seen when he took care of his daughters early in the story. “It doesn’t matter, Rusty said hugging Jan close. It wasn’t your fault” (King 172). This was Rusty’s response to her daughter Jan’s health incident. He was able to calm her down so she could get back to bed. Rusty is simply a great father, and loves and cares for his family with an overwhelming passion. Being able to placate his family’s needs, and being very caring make Rusty a great parent, and one who is always there as in Bridge Over Troubled…

There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we spent with a favorite book.” This is a famous quote said by Marcel Proust. Books over the centuries have had an influential impact on the lives of many. Arguably, there are none more influential than children’s books. Children’s books contain important life lessons and teach many children the basic values they will hold for the remainder of their lives. Examples of the best range from the well-known Dr. Seuss books, to the always-popular Winnie the Pooh books. Although those are historically popular, The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, is one that should be kept in mind. With it’s enticing illustrations, simple and descriptive context, and lesson it portrays, the children’s book The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister should be considered for a spot on the “Top 100 Children’s Books” list.…

When I first started reading the book I had a hard time following it, I think it was because I just didn’t understand his style of writing at first. I think part of it may have been his use of words too. I didn’t really care for the term “monkey mind”, I felt that it was very redundant and became very distracting to me throughout the book. I also felt that he was self-indulgent throughout almost the entire book. Also, I felt like he put his daughter and wife on the back burner in his endless pursuit of liberation. I had made a note of this upon my reading the book. I then scribbled it out thinking that it may have not been important in the paper, but the book later pointed out that he realized his neglect of his daughter and wife in his pursuit to the answers of American Buddhism. I’m sure that Dinty Moore would assert that it was not selfish however, since we are all one and the same and there is no definite separation of individual except in the mind. I think overall it was a good book though; he made a lot of good points that seem very relevant in my life at the current time which I though was very interesting. He points out that instead of focusing all time and attention on retiring, and getting that certain job, or certain promotion; one needs to focus on then here and now, the little things of life. This really applies to the fact that I get so caught up in my work schedule at Chili’s and feel like if my boss changes my schedule it is a reflection of my performance and is enough to make me not even want to get out of bed. Reading this book actually helped me see things as minutiae, minor details, and I actually laughed about my work situation. I get so caught up in grades and work that life will pass me by if I’m not careful. The fact is the manager was giving me a break because I work six days a week and he knows how much I put into my academics as well; it…
