Geoff Nunberg is one of the many people who search for problems within language and bring it to our attention that we, in fact, are wrong and have been wrong and probably will continue to be wrong. Nunberg argues that the phrase “comprised of” is passive and illogical. “Saying the book is comprised of three chapters is like saying it’s ‘contained of three chapters’ or it’s ‘consisted of three chapters.’ It shouldn’t make any sense at all.” He continues to point out that the usage of this nonsensical phrase has found a commonplace in our vernacular because of its wide usage among English speakers.…

The Windigo is a spirit used to scare children. Often, parents would tell their children not to stay out too late or the windigo would get them, and stuff like that. The Windigo in Three Day Road can relate to a few things...such as the war itself; the war could/has the capability of stealing the soul of civilized men, making them monsters. You could relate this one to Elijah, seeing as he is the one who becomes consumed by the morphine and becomes completely bloodthirsty. The Windigo could also propose a threat to Xavier, since he is basically dying through the novel. You could say the Windigo is literally eating him alive, making him miserable and making him suffer for having left his home, killing many men and so on…

If you're like most people, then you most likely believe that we are products of our environment. “You are a product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective. Analyze your life in terms of its environment. Are the things around you helping you toward success - or are they holding you back?” (W. Clement Stone) This idea could not be better represented than the two young boys that this story is about. In “The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates,” written by Wes Moore, two fatherless young boys that grow up with the same name and that live in the same neighborhood couldn't have taken more different paths in life. Wes Moore becomes a Rhodes Scholar, veteran and…

Windeby Girl.......who is she or he? How did they die? Where was his or her family? What part of the world did she originally come from? These are all questions which have plagued historical researchers for many years, largely due to the fact that there are no pieces of written evidence that would help to answer these questions, meaning that interpretation of archaeological sources is the only basis for trying to find the answers. As is usually the case with interpretation though, many different conclusions are made and therefore, ultimately we are still uncertain about which interpretation reveals the answer to these questions. Records indicate that this was the first body to be found in Windeby, but it is widely considered that the records…

“Aren’t you a little short for a storm trooper?” (Lucas New Hope 40). Rings a bell, doesn't it? This is one of the many quotes and a memorable one from Princess Leia in George Lucas’s saga Star Wars. Lucas had created an all American myth and was the first to do it. His movie saga used every archetype known to man and was inspired by the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell. Campbell’s book also had every archetype known to man in it. It affected an innumerable amount of people around the world. Lucas’s Star Wars saga even went further than the big screen by inspiring comics, video games, toys, and other merchandise making Lucas a billionaire. His first three movies he made in the saga are New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of The Jedi. In this Star Wars trilogy, George Lucas illustrates that the hero must be wounded either physically or emotionally to be open to spiritual knowledge and transformation. Leia’s wounds open her to love, Luke’s wounds open him to becoming a Jedi Knight, and Anakin Skywalker’s wounds open him to redemption. These transformations are marked by physical and emotional wounds.…
