SASF Reflective Essay

Attending SASF’s after school program has helped me to improve my leadership skills,my citizenship, my service and my character. While attending SASF’s after school program three were many times when I had to take writing class. Attending writing class reflects good leadership skills because during writing class there were many times that the teacher divided the class into groups. We would be put with people we weren't familiar with to write a story together. During this time the teacher had always chosen a leader for each of the groups. I remember constantly being chosen as the leader of a group. When I was the leader of the group I would constantly check up on the others to make sure that they were doing the work correctly and when they had a problem I would try my best to help them. I believe that being constantly exposed to such situations as the leader has given me a lot of experience which has greatly increased my leadership skills.

I was able to reflect character because of some help that I will never forget. When I was small I was always horrible at sports. I could never to anything right so I just decided not to do them altogether. However one summer my gym teacher in SASF said that everyone in the class had to shoot a basketball in the hoop. I was shocked. I had never ever shot a basketball in the hoop before. Everyone in the class shot the basketball in the hoop with ease. When it was finally my turn to shoot the ball in the hoop I shot it many times but it never went in. And worse of all if I didn't shoot it in everyone else wouldn't be able to play. Due to this I kept on shooting. My gym teacher told me that I would be able to get it in if I kept on trying. He gave me a few tips and I shot it in for the first time!
