When taking a test, remember that it is just a test. Many people get intimidated by tests thinking that they are more than they really are. They are supposed to be a review of what you have already learned in your class. Having confidence in yourself and studying well can help you do well on them.…
In Rebecca Safier’s article “When Should I Take the SAT for the First Time?”, explains the advantages and disadvantages of taking the SAT earlier and when you should take it. Safier claims that taking the SAT before your senior year of high school can stress relieving, but can be substandard because of the lack of preparation. Safier attempts to encourage students to prepare for their SAT’s in order to do so she says it gives them more time to improve their scores.…

During the unit 2 assessment test, I learned that I am all over the charts between good and poor. I fell mostly in the middle of okay with the majority of the answers. It's a reality check about your skills when you list them on paper in black and white. It helps you learn a lot about yourself when it's on paper and it's laid out in front of you. Evaluating yourself is never easy and something you don't always want to face. There is always going to be things that needs to be changed and you may not be ready to take that step.…

Similar to other students, each of my five strengths has a significant influence on my life at Grace as well as my studies. First of all, being an achiever clearly empowers me to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. A few of the characteristics of an achiever are great stamina, productive, and a hard worker; these will definitely benefit me in the coming years. Also, this strength will aid me in my goal of attaining good grades during my college time. No matter what, I always put my best effort into my work. I generally do what is asked of the teacher/professor without even thinking as well as do anything necessary in order to pay attention to what is being taught which more than likely will be an advantage for me.…
I love the challenge of rigorous course work and the chance to expand my knowledge. Hence, I have taken multiple advanced and AP courses. Although I do fairly well in the course work, my shortcoming occurs on the AP tests. Out of the five AP tests I have gotten, I have not received anything higher than a 2, no matter how hard I try. Similarly, my SAT lower than anticipated. This is very discouraging to receive because I believe that these test do not accurately reflect who I am as a student. It is important to receive instruction on test taking strategies that will help me succeed. I am willing to commit myself to any measure necessary to achieve the success I…
Studying for the SAT on your own with borrowed books while others where getting test-prep assistance must have been very difficult. I commend you for your efforts. When I was in school the test prep industry did not exist. Now, it's become big business and it's a shame that there are not more options available to those who cannot afford expensive classes. Ideally, cultural capital is something that everyone can readily obtain. I see some institutions such as museums offering "suggested admission" or theaters offering Student Rush tickets that help to make certain cultural experiences more accessible, but it would be nice to see…
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is a test designed for students of any age, but draws a large amount of juniors and seniors in high school. This test measures students’ skills in reading, writing and mathematics. The test is out of 2400 points, 800 points from reading, 800 from writing, and 800 from mathematics. If good test scores come from wealth, then the most important issue to consider is, the poorest families having a disadvantage because they cannot afford private elite tutoring to increase their kids score. Many sources say this elite tutoring is a huge problem, but other sources say the tutoring is not what gets you a high score. This is a nationwide test that is often used to help students’ chances…
All year, every year, students and teachers prepare for the SAT and ACT, but why? David Schmid, the principal at Basalt High School states, “The testing is not the final, end all measure of how students and teachers are doing.” Honestly, the majority of the students who prepare to take this test only know one-fourth of the material on the test, the rest is just guessing and memorization, but memorizing is not the same thing as learning. If these tests are the two major things that colleges look at then what is the point of going through four years of highschool trying to make grades if it comes down to the student guessing most of the answers on the tests? The tests do not acknowledge how well a student does in school. A student’s academic ability should not be determined by two tests, it should be determined by how well the student did all throughout high…
All guns have the potential to be dangerous and should be dealt with precaution. Guns have been a part of American history for as long as people can remember. For most individuals guns are supposed to be very dangerous and unsafe. Though, that is not true. Guns can be hazardous, but only if they are in the wrong hands. Owning a gun is a right that every American should take pride in having. Guns are used for self-protection, hunting, law enforcement and other practices. The right to own a gun is secured by the 2nd constitutional amendment. So, prohibition of guns from being owned or bought is immoral and unconstitutional. Gun control in the United States should be eliminated.…
I find writing a very neutral subject because I am not terrible nor excellent at it. I have always written enough for it to be satisfactory. Therefore, I believe that one of my strengths as a writer is being able to understand what I have to write about and knowing what I want to say. I question myself every step of the way, asking myself “ Is what I am writing, answering the topic that I am addressing?” However, with that said, I believe that my weakness lies in that fact that I cannot put my thoughts into words. I have a vast amount of ideas that never get a chance to come alive on paper. I feel that I am not very good at transitions and sentence structures. Another weakness is that it takes me an awful long…
On standardized tests I do kinda well on them. Each one are different and some I do ok in them and some i do bad on them and sometimes I do so so. I consider myself as a bad test taker because everytime when I get a test I would always think that I would do bad on everything. And also that I would always think that I wont understand it but i do and that only some of it. I have always been this way and it is a big challenge in me and I just have to deal with it and move on. When there is a standard test that I have to do I would always study for it for a long time so I would feel confident when I take the test. Another way is that I would take my time and slow on taking my test because if I go fast I feel like I did something wrong and then I would go back. The night before I take the test I would study for little bit and would sleep early so I could wake up early in the morning to take the test and feel well. I do best on questions when you just have to pick which one and that is best for me becuase it way better like that and I sometimes know which one are the right one. The questions that I mostly struggle on is the one that I really have to think hard and see which one is right and try to see if…
As a college student, I think one of the most difficult tasks to overcome is getting in the right mindset of taking exams, short or long, and doing well on them. For myself, the more exams I take, I find myself preparing for the next one with better strategies and preparation techniques. When it comes to improving my study/test strategies I could focus a lot more on the time I spend on studying, preparation before the test, and finish all the assignments in relation to what is being tested.…
