about the mythology. Even today the tales and history of the mythology can be seen. Their builds architecture however can be seen to influence by Egyptian architecture. They believe to please the gods is to make grand temples to praise them, another temple of grate proportion is Temple to Athena Parthenos on the Acropolis. I see that the Greek myths, gods, and goddess play an important role in Greece society. I believe to show how grant their gods are, they built these great, big building to show off their gods. In the text book its says that the temples have a “The floor slopes gently out from center to corners. The columns bulge toward their middles. The vertical lines of walls and columns tip slightly inward” this is because it has to “accommodate human perception, and to make lines appear straight and balanced to the naked eye where they would otherwise appear crooked and misshapen.” This is shown that they take in both present, past and future presentations on their goddess and gods.
In ancient Egypt they sue their sacred places to focus on their impending death.
The death gods, iris and Osiris, are all to be please before the person can go over to the next life. In their death rituals, they used different techniques to show their power. A sacred place is usually their tomb, and the person usually isn’t just buried with the family they are buried with many other things. Gold, jewelry, sacrifices, and other things will all to believe to help them go over to the other side to meet the god of death/after world, Osiris. They want to appease him so they can have a great afterlife. One example or I should say many examples are the relics we have seen come from the pyramids. They are all grand gestures toward death, and the artifacts in the tombs would have thought to help the individual into the afterlife. They symbols and the words on the walls of these tombs also to show the message of spiritually that they believe in. in King Tuts tomb, his mask shows his grandeur in even after life. bodies.
In another civilization, Minoan civilization, they do believe in in a religion however how they appease them is much different.
Although there really isn’t any temples to show their sacred places, in a site called Anemospilia, it has shown that the people used human sacrifices to show appeasement towards their gods. I though originally that the Aztecs and Mayans were the two really only places who practiced human sacrifices however I learned they used it too. They used it to appease their gods for different things but mostly for the positives that will come in the future like their crop and other
things.
Overall I think sacred places revolve around the civilizations specific religion and how they focused on these religion. Most of the rituals usually use either places, or temples or other sites to please their gods. In these three ancient civilization explains they use various amount of things to help with spiritual activities and their religious activities. The temples show the most devotions towards their religion and the gods they build the temples for. In the case of human sacrifices I believe that also is a giant indicator towards how much they want to appease their gods. In the end the different civilizations can be seen through their spirituality in how they show in physical form this devotion.
