Sailing and Awesome Goddess Nymph
Calypso/Homer
Group Six
Period 3/4
Song: Sailboat
To the tune of Payphone by Maroon 5

I’m on a sailboat, trying to sail home. We need to new capt-ains pronto. We have no captain but an idea, go vote for Homer and Calypso.

Yea I, I know it’s hard to remember the last time we were on land. Vote for beauty and the brain. They’ll sail better than you can. You say it’s too late to make it. Who says it’s too late to try. Homer may be blind as a bat, but he controls the story format.

We’ve wasted some nights, sailing with them is right, we’ll sail at the speed of light; they’ll captain us right. So please vote for Homer and don’t forget Calypso.

I’m on a sailboat, trying to sail home. We need to new capt-ains pronto. We have no captain but an idea, go vote for Homer and Calypso.

If happy ever after’s did exist, we would still be captaining this ship. Calypso is an awesome goddess nymph. If we listen to Zeus’s song I’ll be sick.

Let’s set sail for tomorrow and just forget yesterday. Beauty and the brain will face the sea and you just know they are brave. You can’t expect Poseidon to do well, we all expect you to vote. We know we’ve said it before but who is smart; it’s Homer.

The character’s father has been gone for many years without returning or sending any messages, causing the boy and his mother to wonder whether he has died, or if he is gone because he does not wish to return. The four main characters in the "Open Boat" are the captain, the cook, the correspondent, and the oiler; also known as Billy. The captain is injured in the shipwreck that takes place before the beginning of the story. Despite his injury he naturally falls as the leader amongst the group of men. Stephen Crane says "...he could never command a more ready and swiftly obedient crew than the motley three of the dinghy." Although the men are no longer on the ship the same understanding and respect is still apparent for their captain. The cook is the most optimistic out of the group. Throughout, the "Open Boat" the cook remains hopeful the men will be rescued. His up-beat attitude helps to keep…

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were appointed to be leaders of the expedition of the West. Jefferson’s first appointed individual, Meriwether Lewis, was his private secretary, and William Clark was Lewis’s friend, who he suggested for a map maker for the trip to President Jefferson. Both were trusted military leaders as well (Foner and Garraty). Lewis and Clark began recruiting soldiers, boatmen, and interpreters just like me to help build boats, gather supplies, and make a master plan. We boatmen built three boats for this trip: a 55-inch keelboat and two smaller boats called pirogues. A keelboat is a long, flat boat…

Also, Calypso and Circe play the role of “Women as Temptress” which greatly hinders Odysseus’ journey. Circe especially has those powerful witch qualities that the uses specifically against the male gender. Luckily, however, she learns compassion for Odysseus and the crew in general. Thus she becomes not only kind but actually a very helpful component in the overall voyage. Calypso needed more convincing about releasing Odysseus, but afterwards she also became somewhat helpful. Other helpful supernatural women appear such as the water nymph, Ino, who saves Odysseus from drowning on his way to the Phaecians. Already we see a huge increase in female importance and their affect on the plot.…

Calypso, a nymph from the island of Ogygia, took in Odysseus who had been shipwrecked after the Trojan War. After falling in love with him and wishing he would stay forever, she offered him the gift of immortality and becoming ageless. But after seven years of being her sex slave, Odysseus denied her for all he wanted to do was return home, considering he had not been there in over twenty years. When he first arrived he was overwhelmed by Calypso's great beauty and the beauty in the island. He was tempted to stay and not return home because she was so gorgeous and he had the chance of sleeping with her every night. But then Calypso fell madly in love with him and would persuade Odysseus into seducing her every night. And soon those persuasions would no longer work because Odysseus did not find it as pleasurable and force became her new way of performing the task. The following quote shows that Odysseus was no longer interested in having these kinds of relations with Calypso even though she still wanted to and achieved in doing so every night.…
