Saint Therese Martin Research Paper

On January 2, 1873 in Alencon, France, Marie Francoise-Therese Martin was born to Louis and Marie-Azelie Martin. She was a sister to Leonie, Marie-Celine, Marie-Pauline and Marie Martin. She also had four other siblings, three who died as infants and Helene who died at five and a half. Marie-Azelie Martin died of breast cancer when Therese was four which caused Pauline to become her second mother. When she was younger, St. Therese suffered from nervous tremors until she saw the Virgin Mary smile at her and was miraculously cured. She had a conversion during the Christmas of 1886. St. Therese overheard her father spoil the childish excitement of getting gifts in their shoes. Instead of crying, she surprised everyone, as Jesus entered her heart and made her more compassionate of her family’s feelings than her own. As her sisters entered the convent, she too wanted to join, but as denied as she was too young. She, however, did not take no as an answer as she begged the Pope which fortunately admitted her into the Carmelite convent. My father worked at Santa Teresita Hospital in Duarte which also happened to have a school, Hayden’s Child Care, for preschoolers and kindergarteners that my sister and I went to. I volunteer at the child care center during the summer and Fantasia the Saturday before December. I also seem to find myself running back to Saint Therese. I admire how Saint Therese never lost faith in God, especially when times were tough. I admire how she never took no for an answer and had the courage to stand up for what she wanted. Saint Therese was never angry and vengeful towards others, she smiled and always sacrificed everything. I would be extremely fortunate if I received at least one fourth of St. Therese’s compassion and forgiveness. I want to have as close as a relationship with God as she
