II. According to ESPN.com from the beginning of the 2009 until the end of the 2011 football season the New Orleans Saints football team had been running a bounty incentive system for their players. A. In order to understand the significance of this issue we must first understand what this system was. 1. The Saints scandal was a bounty system that consisted of more than 20 players and defensive coordinator Greg Williams pooling their money together into a slush fund. 2. A slush fund in the context of corrupt dealings has a connotation of illegality and illegitimacy in regards to where the money came from. 3. The money from this slush fund was then used to pay players bonuses for inflicting injury on opposing players, which would force them to leave games.
