Salesforce.com is a technology company that has been in business since 1999. It recently came to the forefront of the technology industry for its new “innovative business model.” This model is a “customer relationship management (CRM) and other application software solutions in the form of software as a service leased over the Internet,” (Laudon & Laudon, 2012, p. 203). Salesforce and the “Cloud” Salesforce.com provides companies with customer relationship management applications which they can access over the Internet. This company sells its applications to businesses which eliminate the businesses need to upgrade or purchase computers and additional software and also decreases the amount of time it takes to apply new programs. Businesses interested in using these applications subscribe to Salesforce.com and pay a monthly subscription fee to utilize these applications. Salesforce.com accomplishes this task through the use of the “cloud”. The “cloud” is a part of technology that makes sure that we have enough space to send each other information over the Internet and also to be able to route that information back and forth. Subscribers to Salesforce.com can access the cloud through a standard web browser. After accessing Salesforce.com’s cloud, users can access all the software available on the cloud. This software is easy to access, easy to use and customizable to fit the needs of any company/business. Salesforce.com offers 3 different types of clouds: the sales cloud, the service cloud and the custom cloud.
