Table 1: Individual results of Brassica mean root growth (mm). These were treated with Bacillus pumilus and Variovorax paradoxus under water and salt water (100mM, NaCl) conditions. 14 seeds were treated for each sample data set, but not all germinated. The sections where no results are shown, was due to dehydration of the petri dishes. Standard error was calculated using standard deviation.
Brassica has higher mean root growth for the water treated, compared with the salt water treated. The water treated show the highest growth in the control treatment and the least growth in the …show more content…
(P = 17.36) However, there was no significant difference between the salt water and water treatments of B.pumilus. (HSD17.36) However there was no significant difference between the control and V.Paradoxus. (HSD< 17.36) In addition to this, turkey tests show that between the bacteria treatments that were salt water treated that there is a significant difference between the control and V.paradoxus. (HSD> 17.36) However there was no significant difference between B.pumilus and V.paradoxus and between the control and B.pumilus. (HSD <17.36) (Figure 2)
Figure 2: Mean root growth with salt water (100mM NaCl) and normal water treatments of Brassica, using Bacillus pumilus and variovorax paradaxous bacteria species. (mm) The error bars are calculated from standard deviation. The number of samples to calculate the mean varied between each sample given, because not all the seeds successfully
