but died 9 months before Dali was born. Dali’s parents told him that he was a reincarnation of his late brother. Dali was a “trouble child”, he often had fits of anger with his father and students in school. With Dali’s outburst of anger, his father and students at school, would punish Dali to the extreme. Dali’s father had a strict approach to raising Salvador and his younger sister. Dali’s relationship was not so good with his father, as they do not see eye to eye, also they fought for dalis’s mother attention. Despite the constant fighting, Salvador and his family would visit their vacation home in a coastal village of Cadaques. In Cadaques his mother and father had built him an art studio, where Dali spent most of the time painting, he would spend the entire day in the art studio from sunrise to sunset, "I would awake at sunrise, and without washing or dressing sit down before the easel which stood right beside my bed. Thus, the first image I saw on awakening was the painting I had begun, as it was the last I saw in the evening when I retired . . . I spent the whole day seated before my easel, my eyes staring fixedly, trying to 'see', like a medium (very much so indeed), the images that would spring up in my imagination.” (the biography, 2015). Dali had his first drawing lesson at the young age of 10 and by 16 he was already attending an art school in Madrid, Spain, later Dali was expelled by the school for insulting his teacher before finals. Salvador Dali has such a unique personality and he was flamboyant, which makes him and unforgettable person. Many people accused him of being on drugs because of how odd his artwork is, to which he explained, “I don’t do drugs, I am drugs”. (Salvador Dali, 1936) As you can see from his art that he was very weird. Dali was greedy he would often find ways to make quick cash which led him to be a part time con artist one man asked for a piece of his hair and he asked for 10,000 dollars and he sent a blade of grass instead because he was afraid of the man using his hair for witchcraft. He also created stunts which was just as outrageous if not even more than his own art work, he once wore a diving suit for his speech and almost suffocated. Later in his life, Salvador Dali had met a woman by the name Gala, she was married to someone else but she cheated on him with Dali, and Dali did not care that she was married either. Later they got married and had an open relationship with Gala. Dali had bought Gala a castle in Spain so that she could’ve brought her other lovers for some fun. The funny thing was being that Dali was only allowed to visit her if she given him a written permission to do so. Salvador was obsessed with Hitler, it was crazy because he was so obsessed that he painted Hitler masturbating and often imagined Hitler as a woman, Dali had felt sexual urges for Hitler and found him very attractive. The most bizarre thing about Salvador Dali is that experienced sadism as a young child, which led to him being a feisty kid fighting with his classmates and father, his sadism was part of his inspirations for his art. Salvador Dali career was a very successful career, he will forever be known as the father of surrealism.
He went to an art school in Spain to further advance himself but he got kicked out only because wanted to be kicked out. Later he moved to France to visit and work with the famous Pablo Picasso, they inspired each other so much. The two biggest artists of the 20th century working together to make art. Salvador was very successful and he had a lot of famous friends such as Elvis Presley, David bowie, and many more. He was also part of a game show in the fifties called “what’s my line”, the show is where you must guess what is the profession of the person, Dali claimed to be an athlete and a cartoonist and other random professions, which’d caused havoc in the show. He also collaborated with Walt Disney. There was nothing Dali couldn’t do, he dabbed a little in fashion, print making, advertising, writing and even film! He was the most famous man of the 20th century. Dali had also created the famous chupa chup logo for the lollipop company. Even today Dali continues to inspire artists. He will forever be an icon for
surrealism.
