Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legal
What do you think when you hear about same sex marriage? Same sex marriage has been debated all around the world, on whether it is right to allow them to marry. My belief is that no one should interdict the same sex to marry. There are many stated facts on why same sex marriage should be legalized, but many are too judgmental.
Same sex marriage is a well-known debate that has been going on for years and I believe it is time to open our hearts to everyone. Nobody should have the right to prevent marriage because they happen to share the same type of genitalia. If they love each other and they are committed to a safe and joyful relationship, why not? According to Kathy Belge, She says: “So, what’s the big deal? If two people love each other, shouldn’t they be allowed the same rights, privileges and responsibilities, no matter their genders?”
Many people do not realize the great effect it can make if same sex marriage was legalized. We would finally see how the battles over the debate of same sex marriage would be over and everyone would be able to make their own choices of their personal life. This world would be such a better place, if we all accepted each other. It is just the need to realize that everyone is unique in their own way and who they love should not be anyone else’s concern. All they want is to be treated with respect and not treated as if they were any different than the rest of us. Michael A. Jones interviewed Brad Pitt and this is what he had to say: “I have love in my life, a soul mate - absolutely. When someone asked me why Angie and I don't get married, I replied, maybe we'll get married when it's legal for everyone else. I stand by that, although I took a lot of flak for saying it - hate mail from religious groups. I believe everyone should have the same rights. They say gay marriage ruins families and hurts kids. Well, I've had the privilege of seeing my gay friends being parents and watching their kids grow up in a loving environment”.
I wonder what would happen if straight marriage were illegal? My opinion is that there would be a great battle to legalize it. Put yourself into their position. All humans are the same, yet different. We all want and love different things. We should not define them by their choices and portray them as animals. “The reason that homosexuals should be treated the same as any other person is because they are just as human as anyone else. It is about wrongfully signaling a person out, hurting their feelings or embarrassing them in public. Homosexuals are just as deserving of kindness as anyone” (According to Pat Lunsford).
My opinion is that same sex marriage should be legal in all states and homosexuals should be respected for their decisions. No one should be able to control who they want to marry. I think that we all would see the great acceptance there is, if same sex marriage were accepted. We should not waste any time being judgmental and open our hearts to everyone who has the right to a chance to marry the person they love.

My personal views on this issue changed a few years ago when watching the TV broadcast and something came up about the right for gays to marry. Previously I was personally indifferent but felt that marriage was as much a religious institution as a civil institution. After all, most marriages are performed by clergy and the majority are in religious settings. I felt that civil union met the needs of gays so why offend the religions?
